PHD is pulling out the glass ball for this article and making predictions & comments on the first round of the Class A Region Tournaments.
*Remember, we have 3 Classes now in ND. You do not necessarily have to win the Region Tournament to get to State! There are Challenge Games/Play-In Games on Saturday, March 9th. The runner-up finishers will play the 3rd place finisher from the opposite Region for the right to play at the State Tournament.
Where are the Region Tournaments played?
Region 1 – SHAC (NDSU)
Region 2 – Mayville State
Region 3 – Minot State Dome
Region 4 – Killdeer High School
Class A Regionals
Region 1

Semifinal Winners: Kindred, Wahpeton
Champion: Kindred
Kindred watches from the stands tonight, #1 seed gets the bye.
Game 1 at 4:30 will be a great matchup and rivalry game. The Squirrels and Jaguars played last Monday and CC won in overtime 74-70. You would think that the Squirrel’s experience of winning the State Tournament last year would propel them to victory. However, that will not be the case tonight. The Jags will slow Cole Holzer Cole Holzer 6'7" | PF Central Cass | 2024 State ND down just enough to eke out the victory. Landon Moser Landon Moser 6'1" | PG Northern Cass | 2024 State ND will have a big night, score in the high 20’s, and knock down some crucial buckets. Who is the X-factor? Freshmen Hudson Rietschel Hudson Rietschel 6'0" | SG Northern Cass | 2027 State ND will get loose and drill a couple of shots to push the Jags over the edge. Look for Laxdal to draw up some sweet sets down the stretch and for North Cass to execute.
The Huskies should crush the Grovers in game 2 at the SHAC. Wahp beat OG twice this season, 69-46 & 76-55. Veteran coach Jeff Ralph will have the Huskies foaming at the mouth to start the game. PHD predicts the Huskies to start strong and compete throughout as if they are running the Iditarod! The nightcap is between the Hi-Liners and Broncos. They split in the regular season. Cameron Cordero Cameron Cordero 5'8" | CG Lisbon | 2026 State ND is the player to watch from Lisbon, his motor runs like an 80’s muscle car and he plays with a ton of heart. Can he and Jayden Bittner Jayden Bittner 5'8" | SG Lisbon | 2024 State ND pull the upset? Not tonight, PHD is picking Valley City. Bryson Heck Bryson Heck 6'3" | SG Valley City | 2025 State ND and Carson Eggert Carson Eggert 6'4" | PG Valley City | 2024 State ND both average 13.3 ppg, tonight I think they both score over that. Zach Sykora Zach Sykora 6'2" | SG Valley City | 2024 State ND is the X-factor to watch for the Hi-Liners.

The Tommies beat HCV twice in the regular season 81-71 & 61-44. It is tough to beat a team 3 times, but Thompson can do it! South Prairie-Max beat Turtle Mountain in early February by 10. PHD is going with the Royals to win again. Look for Josh Groninger Josh Groninger 5'10" | CG South Prairie | 2024 State ND & Cameron Sys Cameron Sys 6'4" | SF South Prairie | 2024 State ND to lead the way for SPM.

The Bottineau Braves are the pick for the nightcap. Carson Haerer Carson Haerer 6'0" | PG Bottineau | 2024 State ND will score in the 30’s once again and move on to the next round. Haerer has scored 30+ points in plus 12 or more games this year! Haerer will be 1st All-State and likely a Mr. Basketball candidate.
Region 4
Quarterfinal Winners: Beulah (bye), Hazen, Shiloh Christian, Dickinson Trinity
Semifinal Winners: Beulah, Shiloh Christian
Champion: Beulah
The Miners move to the next round with a bye.
Hazen will shoot the lights out against the Cowboys and collect the victory. Look for Tyson Wick Tyson Wick 6'2" | PG Hazen | 2024 State ND to hit 5+ triples, score in the high 20’s to low 30’s, and for Keaton Batke Keaton Batke 5'11" | CG Hazen | 2027 State ND to also have a splashy showing. Tuesday’s game of Hazen vs. Beulah will be a marvelous matchup!
Shiloh will dominate against Watford City. The Skyhawks slammed the Wolves 88-51 in the regular season. PHD is expecting a spectacular performance from All-State talent Atticus Wilkinson Atticus Wilkinson 6'6" | PF Shiloh Christian | 2024 State ND . The BIG man should put up a Double-Double. Caden Englund Caden Englund 6'2" | CG Shiloh Christian | 2025 State ND will be the top slasher on the floor and a shooter to watch is Wyatt Westin Wyatt Westin 6'2" | SG Shiloh Christian | 2025 State ND .
Dickinson Trinity should have little trouble with Standing Rock. In the regular season, Trinity beat them 72-39. However, The Rock is scary, they upset Beulah 65-60 on February 15th. PHD is going with the Titans. Jake Shobe Jake Shobe 6'1" | SG Dickinson Trinity | 2024 State ND is one of the best in A and he will power the red & white to a quarterfinal victory.
