Birmingham, AL — The opening night of the Battle Of Magic City once again proved why it is a must-stop event on my calendar every year, as some of the best youth basketball teams gathered in Birmingham for the three day event. Familiar faces showcased their skills while new talents emerged onto the scene. Below are five storylines from our first night in the gym……

10 Year Anniversary Of Prestigious Event

The Battle Of Magic City is celebrating its milestone 10th year, marking a decade of excellence in youth basketball. This prestigious event continues to attract some of the top youth basketball teams from around the country, all vying for glory on the court. This year’s tournament boasts an impressive team count of 223, a testament to its growing popularity and reputation within the basketball community. As teams converge in Birmingham, AL, anticipation is high for a weekend of intense competition.


Nightrydas Makes Season Debut 

The Nightrydas 2028 team made their highly-anticipated season debut, and their performance on Friday night exceeded all expectations. Led by standout players Laron Mack Laron Mack 6'6" | SF Riviera Prep | 2028 State FL , Cayden Gaskins Cayden Gaskins Cayden Gaskins 6'7" | PF FL , and King McMillian King McMillian King McMillian 6'4" | CG/PG Hilliard | 2028 State FL , the team showcased that they are a serious threat to not only win this tournament but many more throughout the spring. With a loaded roster representing the renowned program from Florida, their stellar performance on Friday night sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting and successful campaign for the team.


Atlanta Express Shows Potential

Atlanta Express arrived in Birmingham, AL, with a clear mission at the Battle Of Magic City, aiming to make a resounding impact both locally and on the broader stage of the Under Armour Circuit. On night one, they unequivocally demonstrated their prowess on the court. Myles Hayes, Tenaje Freeman, and Adam Fisher emerged as standout players, as they showcased skills and contributions to the team’s success. Their impressive performances hinted at the depth and talent that Atlanta Express brings to the competition. As the tournament progresses, eyes will undoubtedly remain fixed on this dynamic trio and the entire Atlanta Express team as they continue to make waves and solidify their presence.


WeR1 Secures Super Pool Win

WeR1 kicked off their weekend with a bang, securing an impressive victory over Carlos English in Super Pool A while donning their iconic Last Run jerseys. Led by the stellar performance of LeKendrick ‘Kenny’ Bratton, the team showcased their resilience and skill on the court. Bratton’s dominant presence and strong performance set the tone for WeR1’s success, rallying the team to an impressive win. As they continue to compete in the tournament, WeR1 undoubtedly looks poised for further success, buoyed by their strong start and the leadership of players like Bratton.


Duval Grizzles Look To Make Tournament Run

The 2029 Duval Grizzlies got their weekend off to a fantastic start with a significant victory, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting tournament. This talented team boasts a trio of prospects to watch closely in 2029: 6’7″ forward Azael Brown, whose commanding presence on the court promises to be a game-changer; 6’3″ guard Gavin Youmans Gavin Youmans 6'1" | SG FL , whose agility and scoring ability make him a formidable opponent; and 5’11” guard Kyson Chever, known for his lightning-fast speed and playmaking skills. With these standout players leading the charge, the Duval Grizzlies are poised to make waves during their stay in Birmingham.
