La Lumiere Top Veritas in Friday Opener

In the first game of Day Two, La Lumiere opened with some intense defensive pressure. [player_tooltip player_id='1297052' first='Jalen' last='Haralson'] had an early strip and score to cap a 7-0 run and take an early lead. Veritas Academy's offense featured some impressive shot-making from Aram Soqui Urbano and strong interior finishes from Pablo Soumare in the opening quarter. The two offenses began to slow down in the second quarter for everyone except [player_tooltip player_id='1411404' first='Darius' last='Adams'], who had connected from behind the arc three times in the period. Overall, La Lumiere made seven threes in the first half, but 18 points from Veritas found the two squads separated by just one at halftime. A 19-5 run to end the third quarter, capped by a strong Haralson drive and finish. [player_tooltip player_id='1432014' first='Jerry' last='Easter II']'s floater midway through the fourth put La Lumiere up double-digits, followed by a couple of more late threes from Adams put the icing on the cake.

Late Buckets From Crawford And Jacobsen Help Seal The Win for Brewster

The most entertaining game of Friday's action was a matchup at the top half of the standings between 6-2 Wasatch Academy and 6-5 Brewster Academy. [player_tooltip player_id='1157223' first='Nojus' last='Indrusaitis'] started hot for Brewster, hitting two threes in the first two possessions of the game. However, some of that scoring was negated after a great shooting start from Wasatch's Fischer Brown. The two traded several early shots and Wasatch led 37-35 at halftime with 16 points from Indrusaitis and 13 points from Brown. Brewster opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run getting two more threes from Indrusaitis, but the shots started falling for John Mobley Jr later in the third quarter sparking a 9-0 for Wasatch to retake a lead. Augustine Ekwe had a couple of impressive finishes for them as well in the second half and he finished with 10 Points and 7 Rebounds. Down the stretch, the play of two former Legacy Lions began to make a difference. [player_tooltip player_id='1131156' first='Elijah' last='Crawford'] scored 14 of his 23 Points in the second half and [player_tooltip player_id='1230778' first='Daniel' last='Jacobsen'] scored 6 points and had a key block in the final 2 1/2 minutes of the game, giving Brewster a very important win at the 2024 Pete Hollis Showcase.

Lion Comeback Falls Short To AZ Compass Prep

Legacy Early College had some early struggles with taking care of the ball without Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id='1220048' first='JJ' last='Rembert'], and AZ Compass Prep used those struggles to separate early with an 8-0 run - 6 of them coming from [player_tooltip player_id='1055726' first='Sammie' last='Yeanay']. Despite the turnover struggles, Legacy did a great job of controlling the glass. Despite not having his best shooting game, [player_tooltip player_id='1270430' first='Travelle' last='Bryson'] was a large part of that area for the Lions with 7 rebounds. Vyctorius Miller's offensive prowess was a key factor in AZ Compass' first half, knocking down his 3rd three in as many attempts midway through the second quarter. The Lions slowly started to turn their offense around in the third quarter, but their defense in the quarter allowed them to make the contest very interesting late. They held the Dragons without a field goal for the first five minutes of the quarter, cutting the lead down to one on a [player_tooltip player_id='1050396' first='Terry' last='Copeland'] And-1 putback. Copeland was dominant in the second half for Legacy and [player_tooltip player_id='1502824' first='Kyelin' last='King'] hit some important shots as well. After some missed free throws, Legacy Early College had a chance to win the game at the buzzer but Bryson's shot didn't and AZ Compass Prep squeaked out the win.
