With the 2024 WIAA state tournament kicking off this week, Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a closer look at Sectional 4 in the Division 1 bracket...

THE FAVORITE

(1) Marquette

It would be a big surprise if Marquette didn't emerge from this region. The Hilltoppers won the Greater Metro Conference and went 20-4 overall. St. Thomas commit [player_tooltip player_id='1203205' first='Nolan' last='Minessale'] (22.4 ppg) is the headliner, but Marquette has outstanding guard play from [player_tooltip player_id='1203206' first='T.J.' last='Adams'] (11.6 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id='2315579' first='Cade' last='Kohnen'] (10.0 ppg), [player_tooltip player_id='1887198' first='Ryan' last='Meehan'] (9.8 ppg), and [player_tooltip player_id='1418518' first='Jeremiah' last='Johnson'] (9.7 ppg). Collectively, this group is one of the most dangerous 3-point shooting teams in the state.

TOP CONTENDER

(3) Westosha Central

The Falcons went 16-7 overall and finished a game out of first place in the Southern Lakes Conference. Central will have the best point guard in the region in junior [player_tooltip player_id='1289064' first='Elijah' last='Griffin'], who is averaging 20 points and seven assists per game. If junior [player_tooltip player_id='1853679' first='Liam' last='Lubkeman'] (12.6 ppg) performs well in March, the Falcons could be a force against top-seed Marquette and 2-seed Milwaukee Hamilton.

DARK HORSE

(2) Milwaukee Hamilton

Hamilton made a run to the sectional finals last year. After losing a pair of Division 1 prospects, the Wildcats weren't supposed to be a high seed in 2023-24, but here they are. At 17-4 overall, Hamilton won the Milwaukee City Gold Conference, surprising preseason favorite Carmen Northwest. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1841399' first='Ky'Moni' last='Hunt'] is having a huge season, putting up 27 points and five assists per game.
