Here’s a look at part three of the top wings in the class, ranking the top 5 shooting guards and small forwards in the senior class.
5) AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA | 6’7” SF | Bishop O’Connell (#12 Overall)
Swinton has been an intriguing prospect from a very long time now, and he may be too low on this list considering the way he’s stepped up big time in the last few weeks for O’Connell. The 6’7” wing is an elite level athlete who plays above the rim with authority and makes it look effortless when he does, he’s one of the best shot blocking wings you’ll come across and he has polished his ball skills and shooting to be able to score the ball in different ways offensively. He’s heading to Florida State to play for Leonard Hamilton who has a great track record of developing big time athletes into pro prospects and I wouldn’t be too surprised in Swinton was next in line.
4) Teyvien Barbour Teyvien Barbour 6'5" | SG Patriot (VA) | 2024 State #298 Nation VA | 6’4” SG | Patriot (#11 Overall)
Barbour transferred to Patriot from Osbourn over the summer and immediately turned them to a favorite to win the state championship after losing in the state championship game last year to Hayfield. The 6’4” two guard is one of those special type of shot makers as he is a dead eye shooter from deep with supreme confidence that every shot he takes will go in, he has in the gym range and it looks effortless, he can make shots off the catch and off the bounce while on the move and he can attack closeouts and get to the rim when defenses start to press up on him. He chose to head to Harvard despite a number of mid major offers and will be part of a very talented incoming class for the Crimson.
3) Micah Robinson Micah Robinson 6'6" | SF Oak Hill Academy | 2024 State #91 Nation VA | 6’6” SF | Oak Hill Academy (#9 Overall)
The Texas native joined Oak Hill last season in Head Coach Yerrick Stoneman’s first year where he was arguably their best player, and he’s continued that success as they’ve regained national notoriety this year. At 6’6” Robinson is a versatile wing who can play and guard multiple positions for his team, he’s a big time athlete who can play above the rim and rebounds well for his position, he can score the ball in different ways from all three levels and he is able to make plays on the defensive end too. He’s heading back home to attend TCU where he should have a chance to make play for early playing time in the Big 12.
2) Isaiah Abraham Isaiah Abraham 6'7" | SG Paul VI | 2024 State #62 Nation VA | 6’7” SG | Paul VI (#4 Overall)
Abraham has been a player we have been tracking since he was in eighth grade, all the way through is first two high school seasons at Highland to his last two on a nationally ranked PVI team and his progress has been tremendous. The 6’7” wing is a top level athlete who can play above the rim and make plays others can’t, he has good ball skills and is a lock down defender who can guard multiple positions, but what’s really impressive has been the way he’s embraced different roles throughout his career whether it’s been the go-to guy or the elite role player who brings energy and makes a difference without scoring. He’s heading to UConn where he’ll continue to develop his game and if he continues to take the right strides could have a chance at an NBA career in the future.
1) Darren Harris Darren Harris 6'6" | SF Paul VI | 2024 State #59 Nation VA | 6’6” SF | Paul VI (#3 Overall)
Harris showed from day one at PVI that he was a special type of player, and he’s continued to grow with the program as they’ve reached national prowess and a lot of it has had to do with him. How good is he really? Last night he scored 52 points in a 32 minute high school game going 15-for-19 from the field, 7-for-11 from deep and 15-for-15 from the free throw line. He’s one of the best shooters in the country with the ability to move off the ball and set his feet quickly with a lightning quick release, he has effortless range and knocks it down consistently but he’s really rounded out his game as he’s improved his body to become more athletic and his ball skills to be able to create his own shot and get to the rim. He’s heading to Duke next year where he’ll be the next in a long line of talented Blue Devils with DMV ties.
