Continue ReadingHoward was the most impressive player on the day erupted for 18 of his 24 points of the game in the 2H to lead FCS to a comeback victory. Howard finished with a balanced 24p 7r 1a stat line, scoring from all three levels at a sizzling 65% from the field. Although his lateral movement skills still need improvements to stick with guards at the next level, he seems to have taken a step athletically as punctuated by this one-handed poster dunk in transition from above the block. He gets to his spots in the low post and has a consistent fader from the post in addition to an ability to duck under and hit touch shots off the glass in the paint. Continues to be one of the best sleeper prospects in the 2024 class.
Highlights
Mostashari has fit in pretty seamlessly with a Fairfax Christian team that needed his movement shooting skills to stretch the floor for a talented wing and big man group. Mostashari showed off improved movement skills and athleticism, finishing with a well-rounded 18p 4r 2s 1b statline that reflects the developmental steps that he has taken. A knockdown shooter who understands when to duck under a closeout and get to the rim, I liked that he mixed it up on the offensive glass to create extra possessions for his team
Highlights
Shelton showed off a balanced skillset that could have him thrive at the next level as a shooting wing or a small-ball 4. 6’5 with long arms, the ability to put it on the floor, and the ability to knock down shots– Shelton finished with an impactful 15p 9r 2a 1b stat line in the close loss. His offensive rebounding (5 in the 2H) gave Evergreen extra looks at the rim as they struggled to maintain a torrid hot shooting stretch in the second half. Shelton is an intriguing small college prospect that should be on local colleges’ radars as coaches look for available 2024 wings with upside.
Siaca-Bey continues to be a really intriguing 6’8 prospect in the 2026 class that has showed flashes of perimeter skill since his transfer to Fairfax Christian. Strong with a solid base and decent enough movement skills to hedge well on the perimeter, Siaca-Bey already fits the profile of a modern power forward that surprises some people with his skillset. He is starting to handle it well enough to get past bigs and into the paint and is capable of knocking down catch and shoot perimeter looks. His body and hips have improved enough to allow him to carve out space better in the paint and he is finishing his looks around the rim at a higher rate. As his skill continues to develop, we could be looking at a productive candidate to move up in the 2026 class. Siaca-Bey finished with an impactful 15p 6r 1a performance in the comeback win over Evergreen Christian.
Jones has worked on his body and his explosiveness– it looks to be paying dividends this season as he consistently got past his matchup and into the teeth of the defense. His handle has also improved and allows him to get into pull-up jumpers that were falling early and often in a matchup with Sidwell Friends. Jones floor game as improved as he has made noticeable efforts to keep his head up to survey the floor both on and off the ball to make the right read to the open man. Saw a variety of skip passes, hook passes, and pocket passes in this one off of movement- showing added value to his game as a floor general. Everett finished with 13p 4r 4a 4s 1b in a close loss to the MAC champions.
Williams has gotten healthy and has the legs to finish the game while still competing at a high level on both ends of the floor after struggling with injuries and the flu early in the year. He knows when his team needs a bucket and reads the top foot well to get past his defender and to the rim, and he has also added the upper body strength needed to finish with more contact at the basket. A high level passing wing that is capable of working the two-man game as a big or as a guard, his offensive versatility is key to Sidwell’s success. The Georgetown commit finished with 13p 5r 3a 1s on the night.
Condon is one of my favorite prospects in a talented freshman DMV class because he knows his role, understands what his coach needs from him, and plays within himself. He sprints the floor incredibly hard, is a capable passing target in tight windows in the paint, finishes well around the rim, rebounds at a high level, and is a surprisingly quick leaper as a weak side shot blocker. He overcome some early foul trouble by ensuring that is motor never ran cold, continuing to fly around defensively as a helper and securing 4 offensive rebounds that helped Sidwell to sustain their lead in a dogfight of a conference game. With soft touch in the paint and a developing 18 foot jumper already in his bag, I’m very interested in watching how the rest of his offensive game develops and how he is used in Sidwell’s methodical system. Condon finished with 8p 6r 2b on the night.
