Check out some of the best passers and playmakers from this season from the 1A schools below.
Rascoe has been a big part in Bertie’s success and their potential title aspirations this season, running the point guard spot smoothly for the Falcons. He’s averaging 4.8 APG with over a 2.5 assist/turnover ratio, showcasing not only his ability to find teammates, but also stay error free. He’s undersized, but very quick, which allows him to beat defenders and play 5 on 4, reading defenses to find the open man. He’ll continue to show off his floor general status as Bertie hopefully runs deep into the 1A state playoffs.
Brayden Taylor
Brayden Taylor
Taylor is a UMO baseball commit, but continues to shine on the hardwood for Bear Grass Charter. He’s averaging 6.7 assists per game while also leading the team in scoring, showing he’s a versatile threat offensively at the lead guard spot. With an over 3.00 assist/turnover ratio, he’s shown he can make good decisions consistently as well. With a second round matchup coming against Pamlico County tomorrow, Taylor will need to continue to be at his best to help his group out.
AJ Jackson
AJ Jackson
Jackson has been a great table setter and distributor for Corvian Community despite being a great star on the hardwood as well. Leading the entire 1A West division with 6 assists per game, his shiftiness and quickness allows him to beat his defender and make reads as the defense tries to play 5 on 4. He’ll continue to be a part of a well balanced group and take a backseat role as a distributor and tempo pusher who leads the offense from the shadows.
Carter provides needed playmaking and defense as the lead man for Washington County, averaging 5.3 assists per game along with 16.3 PPG, 7.8 RPG, and 4 SPG. He’s a dynamic prospect who knows how to push the pace with the ball in his hands, finding teammates on the interior or in transition. Someone who’s really taken strides over the course of this high school season, he’s a name to monitor from ENC as he continues to post big numbers.
Plata is the most productive freshman playmaker on the list, leading SWA with 3.6 assists per game in a rotational point and combo guard role. His poise and composure for his age are impressive, and he’s good at making quick decisions with the ball in his hands. Good in transition as well in the half court, he feels like a point guard of the future with Coach Austin at SWA. Keep an eye on him this grassroots season.
