Potomac Falls played another fun and close game against Massaponax. Johnny Opiola did what he did best in this contest, impacting the game with his energy on both ends. He was all over the court and was part of an impressive Potomac Falls defense. He was involved in every play in the first half and was significant in Pot Falls’ two-point win.
David Marshall David Marshall 6’3″ | PF Potomac Falls | 2024 State VA ‘s defensive intensity impressed me in the Semi-Final, and it’s something that I mentioned last time. He was impactful in the same way Vs. Massaponax. He did a great job rebounding and had some tough finishes. David was also really good in transition scoring and passing. He led all scorers with 14 to keep Pot Falls undefeated.
Dezmon Ainsworth
Dezmon Ainsworth
Dezmon Ainsworth really impressed me for Massaponax. He was their most impressive player on the night and stood out. He is a good athlete and used that effectively on the glass. Dezmon had some tough finishes in the paint and was Massaponax’s best source of offense. Dezmon has an excellent size for a guard and uses it productively. Dezmon is a guy to look for this Spring/Summer and into next year.
South Lakes beat up on James Madison and quickly got out to a big lead. South Lakes’ defense is always tenacious and opportunistic. Sol Vita Sol Vita 6’1″ | PG South Lakes | 2025 State VA is the guy I feel always gets things started for South Lakes on both ends, and he’s a big part of why they’ve been so dominant this year. Sol is a great passer and rebounds well for a guard. Sol led all scorers with 16 in a comfortable win.
Highlights
Makel Minor
Makel Minor
Makel Minor is having a ridiculous Freshman season, and he may have had his most impressive performance against Meridian. Makel had 27 points, leading all scorers, and knocked down 5 threes. Makel is a pure scorer and is always committed on both sides. He’s an elite shooter with great range and often gets to the line. He is a great free throw shooter and one of the most underrated two players in the state. Makel has a bright future ahead of him and is a player to watch going forward.
Michael Edwards
Michael Edwards
Another guard for James Monroe that impressed me is Junior Michael Edwards. Michael stuffed the stat sheet and was a star on defense. Michael had 5 steals and 4 blocks. Michael is a smaller guard, so having that kind of defensive impact is uber impressive. He also added 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
