DAC Conference Player of the Year: [player_tooltip player_id='2354782' first='Corey' last='Hairston Jr']., Riverside-Durham

Riverside-Durham High guard [player_tooltip player_id='2354782' first='Corey' last='Hairston Jr']. is this year's Durham Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Hairston took home a majority of the votes in this year's poll, taking home 60 percent of the overall votes to win the award. He's a new face on the PH radar on the varsity stage this season, though he's been a presence in the [program_tooltip program_id='2227286' first='Team' last='Loaded NC']/BCT backcourt for the past few seasons. The 6-foot-2 unsigned senior guard put up 16.9 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.2 APG and 1.4 SPG as a strong, two-way presence in the Pirates backcourt this season. He's a big-framed guard who's shown he can hold his own inside and outside the painted area for his squad. He can operate with and without the ball in his hands given his prowess for rebounding the ball and playmaking. As he improves upon his efficiency on the perimeter, look for his name to grow as a potential JUCO prospect in the region. Hairston beat out [player_tooltip player_id='1076355' first='Jayde' last='Braswell'] (Hillside), [player_tooltip player_id='2284885' first='David' last='Mirikwe'] (Chapel Hill) and [player_tooltip player_id='2349878' first='Zion' last='Wells'] (Jordan) to take home this year's honors.

He ranked third in the DAC this season in scoring, sixth in rebounds and ninth in assists while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 29 percent from deep. He finished second in the conference in field goals made (159), third in 3-pointers made (35) and fourth in free throws made (53) in leading the Pirates to a 16-8 record on the year and second place finish in the conference at 6-4. It's been a tight race in conference action this season with Chapel Hill atop the standings currently at 7-3. Look for Hairston and Riverside-Durham to make some noise this week in their conference tournament!
