1. Garfield Heights (18-0)
The Bulldogs have some signature wins over prep schools (Western Reserve and Huntington Prep) and out of state programs (Faith Family Academy out of Texas) while they don’t have many huge wins over OHSAA schools, that’s the main reason they don’t appear first on MartinRPI and Max Preps RPI rankings, I would have the Bulldogs first in Ohio among all divisions at the moment.
2. Saint Ignatius (14-3)
The team with the most losses that appears in the top 10, the brutal schedule Saint Ignatius has played gives them the number two spot. As many marquee wins as any team in Ohio, Louisville, Reynoldsburg, Brunswick, Saint Edward, Centerville, Lutheran West and Lutheran East are just some of the top teams that the Wildcats have defeated.
3. Olentangy Orange (16-0)
One of two unbeaten Division I schools, Olentangy Orange has jumped past every hurdle in their way thus far. Wins over Westerville North and Hilliard Bradley stand out, they’ll have a rematch with the Jags on the road on February 9th, exactly one month after their first meeting.
4. Archbishop Moeller (16-1)
Moeller has been on fire, winning seven straight by double digits since their lone loss on the road to Centerville. They’ll get a top 10 battle with Elder this Friday, I plan on being in attendance for that showdown.
5. Delaware Hayes (15-1)
Sweeps of Westerville North and Big Walnut show the Pacers are ready for the loaded central district playoffs. They’ll get a chance to avenge their lone loss on Friday night when Westerville South comes to Delaware for a highly anticipated rematch.
6. Toledo Whitmer (14-1)
Another team with the opportunity to avenge their lone loss, Whitmer has a rematch with Findlay on February 9th. Their win over Sandusky (only team to beat them this season) is the main why I have them slightly ahead of Findlay despite the head-to-head loss. If Findlay can complete the season sweep, they’ll pass the Panthers.
7. Cincinnati Elder (15-2)
Elder’s lone loss in Ohio came to Moeller and they’ll battle on Friday like I previously mentioned in this article. Elder has done a good job winning the close games, going 7-0 in games decided by 12 points or less, including three within five points.
8. Findlay (13-1)
The Trojans were unbeaten until Perrysburg tripped them up in a big rivalry game. They play again to wrap up the regular season, that game could have conference title implications. They’ll get their rematch with Whitmer next week, I expect it to be closer than last time. Wins over Ottawa Glandorf and Lima Sr are other signature wins for Findlay this season.
9. Louisville (15-2)
Losses to Cleveland private school powers Saint Ignatius and Saint Edward on the road are nothing to be ashamed of. Wins over Archbishop Hoban, Walsh Jesuit and CVCA by an average of 20 points per game show they can not only beat but separate themselves from tough competition.
10. Brecksville-Broadview Heights (14-1)
It’s funny their only loss came at a holiday tournament to Ohio squad Lakota East. The Bees have wins over Stow, North Royalton, Hudson and most recently Akron Buchtel.
