Thornton Jumps Out Early and Holds On Late to Defeat Cardinal Ritter
Early on it looked like Thornton was going to run away with this one as they led Cardinal Ritter 16-3 after the first quarter. It was a dominant showing especially by Meyoh Swansey Meyoh Swansey 6'3" | SG Thornton | 2024 State IL . The defending Missouri state champs kept chipping away at the lead in the second half and had the momentum in the fourth quarter, but quite frankly just ran out of time as Thornton won 53-50.
It was all about Meyoh Swansey Meyoh Swansey 6'3" | SG Thornton | 2024 State IL for Thornton in this game. What is great about this squad is that each night a different member of the three headed senior guard trio can step up. This night it was Swansey who had his feathery jumper going for four triples along with several athletic finishes at the cup for 20 points capturing game MVP honors. Chase Abraham Chase Abraham 6'0" | SG Thornton | 2024 State IL hit three from deep for 9 points and Isaiah Green Isaiah Green 6'1" | PG Thornton | 2024 State IL chipped in 8 points in the win. Fought through foul trouble, had trouble getting the ball in his spots, the defense was collapsing on him every time he did touch it, and couldn’t ever quite get in a rhythm. Still pretty good when you can have an “off night” and almost get a double double and defeat a reigning state champion.
