The home Gaels cut the Goretti lead back to 8 with 2:19 left in the 1H but headed into half down 31-21. Goretti cut the lead to one behind some strong play from Caleb Embeya Caleb Embeya 6'9" | C St. Maria Goretti | 2024 State #238 Nation MD (13p 5r 2s 1a) before Brathwaite (16p 5r 4s 1a 1b) scored on a drive to the paint to push the lead back to 3, eventually closing it out for a 60-51 MSJ home victory.
Farrell came alive in the 2H to put the game away for the Gaels, scoring 14 of his 20 points on the night in the final two periods of play. The Rhode Island commit is playing with better pace in his senior year, reading the defense and using both his agility and finishing ability to finish at the rim instead of settling for jumpshots against smaller matchups. He has soft touch with either hand and finished off the euro step, with a running hook, and with a series of floaters around the basket. Farrell had a few assists that rimmed out from the perimeter but he is seeing the floor at a higher level at making the right read to create easy looks for his team. He finished with 20p 5r 1s 1a in the win
Embeya took awhile to get going offensively today but was a big part of Goretti clawing their way back late in the 4Q. The Towson commit showed his ability to score with a soft touch in the paint and from the FT line. He moved well defensively but offensively is showing more of a face-up game this season vs a more traditional back to the basket offensive attack– a move that will pay dividends at the next level. The sturdy big finished with 13p 5r 2s 1a on the night.

This was my first time viewing Trn and I liked what I saw– a physical, driving guard that isn’t afraid to take and make big shots behind the arc. The sophomore guard played most of the game and contributed 13p 2a 1b 1s 1r off of 57% shooting. Trn understands spacing and finds openings in the defense to set up great looks from beyond the arc but can also create his own offense off the bounce. As he grows and continues to add strength to his frame- could see him shaping up to be a very good high-academic prospect.
One of my favorite sleepers in the ’24 class, Wright guarded up a position and held his own before fouling out of the contest. He is surprisingly shifty with some wiggle in the half court, using angles well to get past his matchup and draw help defenders. He can be used on as an effective passer and driver or off the ball as a movement shooter. Despite the foul trouble, still finished with a workmanlike 11p 6r 5a 1b stat line in the loss.
