Powers found his way into the PH NorCal rankings with an exceptional performance in the early season. The 6’6 do it all prospect plays multiples positions, and puts his scoring ability to work from different areas of the court. He had a 30pt performance while we were there dropping 3’s, hitting elbow jumpers, and strong drives to the basket using a dribble or two, he scored in the post.
A slick handling point guard that plays with confidence. He’s got quickness, and a burst. He has a good pull-up off the dribble to hit mid-range jumpers, he’ll get into the paint and finish with jumpers, and strong takes handling contact. He’s an exceptional passer with vision to find shooters on the drive and kick, and in transition with the long pass up.
He’s a big body still learning how to make use of the space he occupies. He’s made improvements from the beginning of the season. He’ll help his team in the post if he stays aggressive going after rebounds, turning and taking it up strong on balance, and being a physical defender in the post. He’s good passer to find cutters, and shooters from his post position.
He’s a big combo guard we’ll keep an eye on going forward. He did good running the point for his team, showing the necessary patience up top, ball handling and a willingness facilitate throughout the game. He used his dribble and length to get into the paint for passing and to shoot over defenders with the paint jumper and finish at the rim off two feet. His lengthy arms take up passing lanes.
He’s a solid body prospect a bit on the raw side in hoops. He works well from the high and mid-post areas, using one or two hard dribbles to get to the rim, he hit the elbow jumper, finished strong coming from the baseline. He runs the court hard looking to finish or follow up misses. He’ll mix it up going for rebounds on both ends. He has good movement and strength to defend on the perimeter , and in the post.
Highlights
He’s an improving player that works from the post area for his team. He has good fundamentals. He’s a player that can receive it and make plays passing from the post or turning and getting closer to the rim. He’ll score around the basket. He’ll get his fair share of rebounds, and give good effort defending in the post.
The 5’9 guard is a key piece of the puzzle for his team. He’s fast and in constant motion on the court, on both sides of the ball. he gets his fair share of steals on defense. You’ll find him up top setting the teams offense in half-court, filling lanes in transition spotting up for 3’s along the perimeter. He has a nice move to freeze defenders to get his shots including a jab step that provides him space to get up 3’s.
Highlights
He’s expected to come into the game looking for open spaces, running to open spots in transition, mostly the corners to knock down catch 3’s. He’s got good size and range and he can knock a few down if left unattended. He has a solid body to defend and rebound in the post. He has time to add more pieces to his game.
He’s a hard playing guard that gives good effort on the defensive side of the ball, while showing us he can play both guard positions on occasion. He’s not a stat stuffer, but does takes it strong to the basket on the drive, and in transition unafraid of contact. He’ll take and make the 3’s that he takes, he has good a shot in the paint. He’s a ball mover.
He’s a long wiry prospect still growing. We last saw the 6’4 prospect running point guard for his team at the Gridley Tournament against quality competition. He has work to do but did well handling and passing in the half-court. He’ll continue to grow but still have point guard qualities. He shoots the 3, and gets into the paint for jumpers. He’ll have to get stronger.
