Prep Hoops Florida scouts Matt LaSalle and Ross Van De Griek will be on the grounds of the event. Here are the top guards to watch for this weekend:
The 6-1 junior guard is very crafty and smart when he has the basketball in his hands offensively knowing when to take the open shot or pass. Daniels can connect on all three levels whether it’s off the bounce or catch as he has strong instincts for finishing with a soft touch. Defensively, Daniels has quick hands and feet to stay in front of the opposing guards as well as maintain his athleticism when it comes to challenging shots at the rim. He is also very disruptive in the passing lanes where he can turn defense into offense in a hurry.
The 6-3 freshman guard has a high ceiling worth of potential as he has impressed us since the beginning of the season. Delancy is a smart shot selector where he can make defenders pay if he’s left uncovered as he can shoot the cover off the ball from 3-point distance. Defensively, Delancy is very physical and can guard off the ball if needed as he is very disruptive when it comes to playing around the rim. He is also a smart rebounder and is assertive when it comes to pushing the pace on offense.
The 6-1 junior guard is very quick when it comes to pushing the ball with pace as well as displaying a high IQ. Livingston does a good job when it comes to penetrating the defense and kicking out to open shooters. Defensively, Livingston has a high motor and is very versatile when it comes to guarding multiple positions. Livingston also has a strong nose when it comes to pressuring the passing lanes as he gets steals off tipped passes which lead to transition buckets on the other end.
The 6-3 junior combo guard does a good job at initiating the offense as well as creating for his teammates on and off the ball. Shoptaw can score on all three levels whether it’s off the bounce or catch as he is putting up career-high numbers in his first season playing at Windermere Prep after coming over from Lowndes (Georgia) over the summer. Defensively, Shoptaw is a physical bruiser who keeps opposing guards out of the lane and is very disciplined around the rim where he can challenge shots without fouling. Shoptaw is also an above-average rebounder for his size.
The 6-6 senior guard and North Florida signee is a pure lefty who can impact the game in a variety of ways. Wilson can finish on the attack without hesitation as he uses his athleticism to get to the rim. Defensively, Wilson is very versatile where he can guard positions 1 through 4 as his footwork continues to improve and is solid when it comes to guarding on the ball. Wilson is an above-average rebounder as well as disruptor in the passing lanes where he can push the pace and play under control. Wilson does a great job when it comes to taking care of the basketball and can create his own shot.
The 6-0 senior guard shoots the ball exceptionally well at all three levels whether it’s off the bounce or catch. He also makes good reads when it comes to penetrating the defense and finding open shooters whether it’s off the back-door cut or on kick-outs. Defensively, Ramadan is very fast and active when it comes to jumping the passing lanes as well as an above-average rebounder from the guard position. Ramadan is signed to play at the next level at Florida Southern College.
Highlights
The 6-3 junior point guard is competent and plays with a ton of confidence when he’s on the floor. Bertrand makes all the right decisions and is a high IQ caliber player. He can impact the game in a variety of ways whether it’s his scoring around the rim or getting his teammates involved. He has a strong knack for his crisp passing ability and hits teammates on a dime at the front of the rim. Bertrand could make an impact at the next level as he plays with good energy and plays hard all the time.
The 6-1 freshman guard has played a big role for Riviera Prep this season where he shoots the ball exceptionally well from the perimeter. Fuentes is also very productive when he plays off the ball as well where he gets to his open spots as well as an above-average rebounder for his size. He and his older brother Mason are a tough tandem in the backcourt as their ceilings continue to rise. Fuentes is also an efficient passer when it comes to finding open teammates whether it’s on the swing pass or slashing towards the basket.
