The 6-foot-7 big man has become a force in the paint and he’s been putting up big numbers for Mountain View so far this season. As he hopes to lead the Cougars to wins and pick up college interest in the process, Prictor has been enjoying every minute for a squad that’s really coming together as a top 5A squad in the state.
“I mean, it’s whole new roster – we lost all our seniors last year and it’s just me and Quincy (Townsend) returning,” Prictor said. “So it’s fun learning a new group of guys and a whole new team and a new dynamic. It’s been super fun.”
As one of the experienced guys returning, Prictor has been counted on for his contributions – of which, he’s been rock solid. The senior has been a stalwart inside, averaging over 16 points a game so far this year and has done his damage in the paint using his size advantage over most defenders and some solid post moves – of which he developed this off-season.
“(I worked on) my confidence and really slowing down because freshman, sophomore year, I was too quick in the paint,” Prictor said. “(Coach) Kendall (White) at (Oregon) Prospects has always been telling me to slow down. So I’ve just been really trying to take my time, take a breath, and collect myself while I make a move and really think about it instead of just going and then putting up a silly shot. So just lots of footwork every day.”
College programs have started to take notice. George Fox has offered a roster spot and Prictor notes that he’s hearing from some other D-III schools here and there along with Shasta Junior College in California. “I’m trying to do my best this season so I can get more (offers),” Prictor said. “I’m just kind of looking for a new family away from home, looking for to get to the next level, pretty much. I just want to keep playing basketball -that’s what I want to do.”
Prictor’s older brother Tane had a similar path in high school, eventually earning a D-II offer from Pittsburg State in the spring. He’s been helping his younger brother during the recruiting process. “He said it was the most stressful thing ever, especially with balancing school and trying to figure out where to go for college,” Prictor said. “He said it was super stressful, but once he got there, he’s just having a blast – that’s what I’m most excited for, see what happens next.”
Mountain View has gotten off to a solid start so far this season, recently winning the title at the Oregon Holiday Hoopfest in Bend. “We’re just going to (keep) going hard,” Prictor said. “I mean, we’re in the top four in 5A, so really want to live up to that, so I think this season is going to be really good. I think expectations-wise is just to be a really defensive, solid team. I mean, our offense is pretty good, but we got to play lots of defense as well.”
Prictor currently ranks as the #88 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
