#1 – TJ Williams TJ Williams 6'5" | SG Wichita Heights | 2024 State #176 Nation KS , 6-foot-5 guard, 2024, Wichita Heights:
As good as the class of 2024 is, Williams’ spot at the top of this list has never been challenged. He’s committed to Wichita State, which makes all the local fans happy. He’s the do-everything leader of the Falcons, who are 6-0 and haven’t been tested too severely. They are currently ranked #1 in 6A. Their closest game was a 11-point victory over Wichita East, which has been surprisingly pesky against a few of the teams on this list.
#2 – Andrell Burton Andrell Burton 6'4" | SG Campus | 2024 State #213 Nation KS , 6-foot-4 guard, 2024, Campus:
Burton has been laboring for a rebuilding Campus program for a couple of years. It’s nice to see his loyalty rewarded with a 4-1 start to the season. While the team around him is vastly improved, this is without question Burton’s team. He’s been on a 25-point/12-rebound tear to begin the season.
#3 – Mason English Mason English 6'2" | SG Pittsburg | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2024, Pittsburg:
This guy has carried a ton of weight as a scorer for the past three seasons. Working with a quality group around him, he’s racking up impressive assist totals this season to go with his usual three-level scoring. The Purple Dragons are off to a solid 4-2 start, with a 2-1 mark against Missouri teams in the early going.
#5 – David Cobin David Cobin 5'10" | PG De Soto | 2024 State #285 Nation KS , 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, De Soto:
De Soto has been a machine thus far in the season, and as you would expect, Cobin is in the driver’s seat. He recently ripped Topeka West for 37 points. De Soto is 8-0, with no victory decided by fewer than 10 points (the opener over Shawnee Heights, 56-46). They are currently ranked #4 in 5A.
#6 – Will Thengvall Will Thengvall 6'3" | SF Kapaun | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-3 forward, 2024, Kapaun Mt. Carmel:
The Crusaders look like they will be right in the thick of things in the 5A field once again, and Thengvall is leading the way. He finished out 2023 with a 30-point night against Bishop Carroll. There’s so much talent around him, he won’t have to carry the load every night. Kapaun is 7-0 with just one close game: a 6 point win over the aforementioned Wichita East Aces. The Crusaders sit #2 in 5A.
#8 – Joey Matteoni Joey Matteoni 6'8" | PF Blue Valley Northwest | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-8 forward, 2024, Blue Valley Northwest:
The defending state champs needed someone to step into a leadership role. Matteoni had already proven to be one of the best in the state. The Northwest Missouri commit didn’t have to do much more than he was already providing – something in the 20-point/10-rebound range night in, night out. Despite some huge graduation losses, the Huskies are 7-0. They were marginally challenged by a couple of out of state opponents. The Huskies will probably be nipping at the heels of Wichita Heights all season. They are currently #2 in 6A.
