As always, Prep Hoops Indiana had eyes, ears, and boots on the ground in gyms from Gary to Evansville, from Terre Haute to Richmond, and everywhere in between. Let’s take a look at some of the prevailing takeaways from the weekend.
Chris Hurt Chris Hurt 5'11" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2025 State IN is the unsung hero of this Crispus Attucks team. Since losing by one point to Class 4A #1 Lawrence North on December 19th, the Tigers have rattled off seven straight victories. Hurt finished with 16 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals in Attucks’ 89-56 win over George Washington on Saturday night. The 6’0″ junior point guard is averaging 11.5 points and 4.1 assists on the season.
Speaking of Attucks’ win, Cathedral also won 75-35 over Heritage Christian to set up Monday night’s Indianapolis City Tournament championship game. Deric Cannady Deric Cannady 5'11" | PG Cathedral | 2025 State IN scored 28 points, including 19 in the third quarter alone, in that win for the Irish. It’ll be a rematch of last season’s final when the Tigers upset Cathedral 61-51. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time at Arsenal Tech High School.
Franklin bounced back from a 67-64 loss to Whiteland in the Johnson County Tournament the best way possible, by beating them in their next game. On Friday night the Grizzly Cubs got revenge beating the Warriors 58-55 in overtime. Then, Franklin ended New Palestine’s six game winning streak with an 81-67 victory. Eastern Kentucky signee Micah Davis Micah Davis 6'0" | PG Franklin | 2024 State #184 Nation IN scored 36 points including the game-winner against Whiteland. He is having an excellent senior season.
Christian Academy is stringing together some really impressive wins. The #2 ranked team in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class 1A poll, has won six straight including victories over Class 3A Silver Creek and Class 2A Paoli. They are now 13-1 on the season with a big matchup coming on Friday night against Providence. Junior guard Joshua Renfro Joshua Renfro 6'2" | SG Christian Academy | 2025 State IN is averaging 22.2 points per game while shooting an impressive 46.3% from deep on nearly 100 attempts.
Josiah Dunham Josiah Dunham 6'0" | PG Evansville Christian | 2024 State IN joined Purdue signee Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN as seniors to go over the 2,000 career point milestone this season. The Evansville Christian point guard did so on Saturday night in the Eagles win over Southridge.
Lake Central just keeps on winning. They are now 13-0 on the season with a big week coming up as they travel to Portage on Tuesday night and host Chesterton on Friday. Not to look too far ahead, but if the Indians can make it through these two games this week they will have a real chance at running the table in the regular season. 6’6″ unsigned senior forward Jake Smith Jake Smith 6'6" | PF Lake Central | 2024 State IN is having a great season.
We lost a couple of undefeated teams over the weekend as Westfield fell at Brownsburg on Friday 62-56 and Tipton went down at Kokomo 70-51. Fishers (15-0), Greenfield-Central (15-0), Lake Central (13-0), and Lawrence North (15-0) remain unbeaten.
Bishop Luers is a team that deserves some more attention statewide. They won their sixth straight over Bishop Dwenger on Friday 54-46 to move to 12-1 on the season. They will travel to Norwell on Tuesday night before a big time matchup with Fort Wayne Wayne on Friday. Twins Dereon Truesdale Dereon Truesdale 6'3" | SG Bishop Luers | 2025 State IN and Drelyn Truesdale are having outstanding junior seasons averaging 18.3 points and 14.8 points per game respectively.
