There will be 14 teams competing in this event with six first round games on Tuesday (1/16) night followed by the quarterfinals on Thursday night (1/18), semifinals on Saturday (1/20) night, and the championship game next Monday (1/22) night. Today, we are going to take a look at 5 players to watch.
One of the players with the brightest amount of upside is this 6’7 power forward of Indianapolis Tindley, Henri Maye Henri Maye 6’7″ | PF Tindley | 2025 State IN . Maye has been one of the players that keeps impressing us since this past summer and this year he has become one of the main guys for this Tindley team. He is a true rim protector, has an extreme amount of bounce, can score around rim, and stretch the floor at a decent rate. The athletic ability is no joke either as he is one of the more natural athletes we have in the state. Yes, he still has loads of untapped potential, but the Indianapolis City Tournament provides Maye an opportunity to have a breakout spurt.
Peters comes into the Indianapolis City Tournament as one of the more under-the-radar seniors with have in the in-state 2024 class. As of this writing, Peters is averaging around 11.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season. At 6’8, Peters is a power forward that stands out with his ability to run the floor, score it as the roll man off of ball-screen or handoff, and rebound his area on both ends. Along with his physical tools, Peters has also shown us at Prep Hoops Indiana that he can play with a high motor from start-to-finish. Just a real impressive, athletic post that could breakout here.
The Cathedral Fighting Irish came into this season with many players needing to step, which has happened because they currently sit with an impressive 10-1 record thus far. One of those players that took that leap this season was senior wing Sheldon Gatlin Sheldon Gatlin 6’7″ | SF Cathedral | 2024 State IN . The 6’7 wing comes into the Indianapolis City Tournament averaging 9.8 points per game and has been one of the key pieces for Cathedral. At 6’7, he uses his athletic ability very well through the defense, can knock down outside shots, and makes plays at the rim as well. He is a player to watch this week because he could really impress in front of a big audience.
The Crispus Attucks Tigers are rolling this season like many thought they would and a big part of that has been the play of senior lead guard Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 5’9″ | PG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN . Lewis is sort of a “do-it-all” type of guard that can either be a facilitator or get a bucket if needed. He plays with great pace on the ball and can get in the paint consistently off the dribble finishing in a variety of ways with floaters and layups. He has made a case as one of the best in-state transfers this season and has almost been the missing piece for this Attucks team. One of the best lead guards in the Indianapolis City Tournament.
