Most of these guys carry several roles for their squad and valuable would be a understatement. Let’s check out 5 wings I’ve seen in person who caught my eye this year as players ready for the next level.
Noah Mallory
Noah Mallory
2025 Noah Mallory who is listed at 6’4 but is probably more 6’5ish with a extremely long wing span has been every bit of elite this season for Wylie High School who is first place in their district. I was surprised after watching him and person and seeing him be just as elite as the footage he puts out that more people aren’t talking about this kid. He’s long & athletic and moves super aerodynamic when attacking the rim almost impossible to defend when he’s headed down hill. His bounce is unrealistic catching oops & dunking off baseline drives and almost hit his head on the rim last night when I filmed him. He goes coast to coast in about 4 seconds & he added around 10 rebounds or so making everything look very easy. He can also knock down the mid range fluently and had some big blocks/steals on the defensive side and overall is one of my top graded wings in the whole state.
Santana Spivey
Santana Spivey
6’5 2024 Santana Spivey is amongst the top underrated 2024’s in Texas. He was all around crisp and I really didn’t see to many weak points in his game on both sides. Let’s start with his size, amazing frame and length at the guard position standing at 6’5 but moves like he’s 6ft. Versatile type of wing who can run the 1 or slide over to the 3 & could be considered a shooter as well depending on matchups. He showed a good feel for the game not forcing any shots or plays and almost seemed to be feeling the defense out the entire first half against a undersized but scrappy Arlington bowie squad. When the game got close in the 2nd half he took over scoring double digits and attacking over and over putting pressure on the defense. He has a smooth pull up jumper but can also finish through contact at the rim which made him tough to guard on his way to a win and another 20 point performance. He’s currently averaging 20 for the year and should be talked about a little more in a district where every game is competitive. Make sure he’s on your radar, he’ll be a good weapon for any program next year.
6’4 Malachi Okunbor Malachi Okunbor 6’4″ | SG Denton Braswell | 2024 TX who also just reached his 1000 point mark has been a stud this season for Ray Braswell. He’s a 2 way guard with a long frame that can give smaller guards trouble defensively. On offense he carries most of the load, he can knock down open shots or create space in isolation. He had some tough plays vs an elite Denton Guyer squad and instantly caught my attention. He finishes lots of and 1’s at the rim using finesse moves and has quick first step to the basket. He also displayed some sweet midrange pull up’s which is always a plus for coaches at the next level. Defensively solid & versatile being able to step out and guard the 1-3 or slide down and use his wingspan to block shots in the post. Malachi is ready for the next level and will flourish with continued development on his skillset.
Zolan Skinner
Zolan Skinner
2024 Zolan Skinner has been more then impactful for a talented Lake Highlands squad that won state last year but lost some of their key players heading into this season. At 6’5 he’s a combo player that honestly played every position through out the game depending on the current line up. Nice build, his frame his body is college ready and he’s able to absorb lots of contact heading to the rim. His first step is deadly and if he get’s past the first defender not much can be done to stop him from finishing. He used his athleticism to finish in the air and even dunk right on top of a defender sending the arena into a frenzy. His rebounding is also a big plus on what he can offer to a team at the next level. Super tough in the paint on both sides but also showed the ability to step out and be a dog perimeter defender which is probably where he’ll play at the next level. His jump shot looked comfortable and I can see he has no issues shooting in defenders faces from anywhere on the court. Zolan is up towards the top of my list of available seniors and should be a instant steal for someone at the next level.
6’7 2025 Lance Carr Lance Carr 6’7″ | SF Dallas Kimball | 2025 State #288 Nation TX was a nice addition for last years state champ Kimball and I can see right away it was better fit for him personally as a player. He fits right in with the tough play, big plays and intense culture at Kimball. At 6’7 his size & mobility at the wing position is absolutely ELITE. He can also slide down play some post as well notably on defense where he’s been somewhat of a extra rim protector this season. Even in preseason Lance showed small flashes of what he could be when giving the opportunity and he’s really turned his game up over the past year. Most when attacking the rim, he can euro step to get what he wants or just go right over you and jam it. Solid passer and handles the rock or controls the pace when needed. Lance is showtime and If his improvement from junior to senior season looks anything like this years jump, he’ll be a name on every coaches radar by this time next year.
