Continue ReadingA quick 6-0 guard, Jackson was in constant attack mode for the Knights in their loss to North Scott, getting to the rim routinely and finishing through contact as well as getting to the free throw line. He finished with a game-high 26 points on 7-18 shooting (0-5 3P, 12-12 FT) with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He’s a quick-twitch athlete with an explosive first step that he uses to blow by defenders, and he’s fearless when he’s attacking. He doesn’t shy away from contact, and he’s also a good passer who sees the floor well.
Hodges, a Muscatine transfer, has given the Knights some explosive athleticism on the glass and as a playmaker on the wing. He was really good as an all-around weapon on both ends of the floor in their loss to North Scott, scoring 6 points on 3-5 shooting to go with 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. He’s a bouncy, rangy defender who rotates well and is a good helpside shot blocker, but what was most impressive about his performance was his improved ball-handling and playmaking. He showed an aptitude with the ball in his hands that I haven’t seen from him before, creating plays off the dribble for his teammates.
A big, athletic forward who scores around the rim effectively and controls the glass on both ends of the floor, Meyer was the focal point of the W-SR gameplan and he still found his way to 16 points and 8 rebounds. He has soft hands and good footwork on post touches, and has shown a little bit of a willingness to step out and stretch the floor, showcasing an effortless stroke from deep. He’s a versatile defender who can protect the paint or switch onto smaller ball-handlers. He’ll play college football in a few years, a highly sought after tight end prospect.
A 6-0 guard with a really nice feel for the game, Schmitt was great in Clear Lake’s win over Waverly-Shell Rock, scoring 15 points on 5-11 shooting (3-5 3P) with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and a block. He moves well without the ball in his hands and can really shoot it at a high clip off the catch, with a pure, quick release.
A quick guard who is able to put constant pressure on his opposition on both ends of the floor with his speed, Hoogeveen was really good in West Lyon’s blowout win over MOC-Floyd Valley, scoring 12 points with 5 assists and 6 steals. He sees the floor extremely well, is a viable 3-level scoring threat, and is a real pest on the defensive end, pairing his quick feet and excellent hands and instincts.
