Scottie was a big time performer in the clutch during Denton Ryan’s huge win over Pearland Dawson. Johnson showed ability to manuever around defenders in the post and floated several hook shots over the defense, even getting a few to fall with his non-dominant hand. Scottie was battling hard all game against Charles Anderson Charles Anderson 6’7″ | C Pearland Dawson | 2024 TX for rebounds and despite being outsized, showed great heart and hustle this entire contest. Scottie was also a key figure in the pick and roll, excelling as the screener and getting to the basket with ease often finishing a tough shot over the defense. I was impressed by Johnson’s ability to not only impact the game in the stats column, but also with his vocality and fighting spirit.

Cedric was a key player in Ryan’s win on Saturday afternoon. He paced the offense with great speed and was able to control the ball with great efficiency even against high pressure defense. Dent showed ability to beat his defender to the basket with deadly speed and even finished several tough layups over taller defenders. What I liked most about him was his ability to pressure the ball without ever giving up, even when he got beat down the court, he would go right back to guarding his man. He also made sure he was the most vocal one on the court on the defensive end, directing his teammates where to be.
Andre Brantley
Andre Brantley
Andre was a key catalyst in Lamar’s early morning victory over the John Cooper School. Brantley showed ability to shoot the ball from deep, as well as take his defender to the midrange or the rim. Andre is very physical on defense, not afraid to body up his matchup. He knows his role well within the team and is a patient player who takes good opportunities to either score the ball or hit an open teammate for a shot.
What I like most about Landon Veal Landon Veal 6’7″ | SF Cypress Springs | 2026 TX ‘s game is that he knows how to play inside as well as out on the perimeter. When Cypress Springs took home a clutch win over Southside LA, Veal was able to stretch the defense out of the paint as he hit several long range jumpers and made his man cover the three point shot. With star Stoney Hadnot Stoney Hadnot 6’6″ | SG Cypress Springs | 2024 State TX in foul trouble early, Landon was responsible for much of the offense and handled the role well, getting several easy dunks and alley oops from rolling to the basket. He also had about 6 blocks on the defensive end, showing off great athleticism and patience to time his jump to send away shots at the basket. Veal shows a lot of potential for only being a sophomore and will continue to shine in big time games. Now playing at Cypress Springs, look for Landon to continue securing the paint.
Julien Mugabo
Julien Mugabo
Julien was the inside aggressor for his Texans team in their Saturday morning contest. Mugabo pulled down several rebounds, using his size and wingspan to tower over defenders and finish severa layups and floaters with ease over his matchup. I would like to see Julien use his frame a little stronger and go up quicker instead of putting the ball on the floor when he gets it, but this is a learning curve he will grasp in no time. Julien showed potential even hitting a few midrange jumpers and then following his shot at the goal for an easy putback. Look for him to continue securing the middle for this Lamar team as the season progresses.
