Also know that this isn’t necessarily the best players in each class. Rather, it’s a list of prospects who improved drastically throughout the year that were on my radar.
He’s a player I’ve watched for a couple years now. But I’ve seen Johnson’s game immensely improve throughout this year. It started last winter when he led Rockford Guilford to a NIC-10 title as a Junior.On the AAU circuit, Johnson helped Greater Purpose find plenty of success at numerous Prep Hoops events. His ability to get hot from deep and improvise in a way to make his team better were two of the biggest areas of growth. Additionally, he shows plenty of athleticism and can fly down the lane for dunks. This fall, he put on a show at the Xposure runs while also leading Guilford to a spot in the PH Illinois Top 40. Recently, he’s led Guilford to a pair of big wins against CPS and Illinois powers Simeon and Whitney Young.
Highlights
Chambers has seen an expanded role on the DePaul Prep roster since the summer. And he’s been surely taking advantage of those opportunities. He really boosted his stock during the June live periods with significant plays on both ends. Chambers showed he can score in a variety of ways and get hot at any moment. More importantly, he has plenty of stamina and numerous hot zones on the floor. Defensively, he gets perfectly into the Tom Kleinschmidt scheme. Great with his footwork and lateral movements while also staying organized and disciplined. Early on in the season, he really impressed during the DePaul/Lane Thanksgiving Tournament as well as the Chicago Elite Classic. Ended the year scoring 22 points in the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic Championship to give DePaul it’s first title in that tournament.
This year, Angelo Ciaravino Angelo Ciaravino 6’6″ | SF Mt. Carmel | 2024 State #160 Nation IL asserted himself as an elite 2024 prospect. Not only has he gotten stronger, more athletic, but he climbed into the top-5 and committed to Northwestern. He already looks like a D1 player and has shown the skills to complement it. A two-way prospect with plenty of athleticism and a high IQ. Makes an impact with his scoring, playmaking, rebounding, and defensive capabilities. Also very lengthy.
Rockford’s next superstar. Started as a freshman last year and has become one of the most productive sophomore’s in Illinois. After an impressive spring and summer with FVV elite, he’s really stepped up on the high school scene. A pure 3-level scorer with outstanding playmaking abilities. But his explosiveness is what stands out the most. Recently, he dropped 30 points in a back-and-forth thriller against one of the states top programs in Brother Rice Also has relations to NBA All-Star Fred VanVleet.
His increase in length, size, and versatility this year led to vast improvements on the court. Big time playmaker who flashes a unique layup package act the rim. He’s also become more efficient scoring from all three levels in a variety of ways. Wether it’s a pull-up jumper or finding an open space to shoot, Ford executes. He’s really strong defensively, too. Love the footwork he displays and avoids silly fouls.
The PG tree at DePaul Prep has passed down to Makai Kvamme Makai Kvamme 6’0″ | PG DePaul Prep | 2025 State IL . A super crafty ball handler who makes his team so much better. So smart with the ball and super explosive off the top of the key. His ability to play all 32 minutes for the Rams also show’s a strength in fitness.
The 2027 point guard is already becoming a star at the Varsity Level. Averaging 18 ppg for a Warren squad with one loss and recently scored 27 to lead the Blue Devils to a championship at the Proviso West holiday classic. Picking up wins over Kenwood and Lincoln Park in the process. He’s also an efficient passer and loves to get everyone involved. Looking to become a double-double threat on a nightly basis. Not many Freshman can make an Impact like Jaxon Davis Jaxon Davis 6’5″ | SF IL .
His emergence this summer made it a no-brainer he’d be the #1 player in his class. Terrific build for a rising sophomore that holds several D1 offers. Confident scoring at all three levels while showing he can be a factor on the boards and in transition. Has Benet off to a fantastic start this winter and nearly won the Pontiac shootout. Falling to curie in double-OT.
