Continue ReadingThis past weekend Evangelical Christian School hosted its 4th annual SWFL vs. EVERYBODY one-day tournament. It was an exciting day of basketball with some great matchups. SWFL came out on the losing end, registering only 2 wins, compared to the field who finished the day with 3 wins. All in all, there were some solid squads with a lot of talent that took the floor, and I will highlight some of the prospects who really stood out to me this past weekend.
Gabe Timmons
Gabe Timmons
Timmons is a guard who fills the stat sheet night in and night out. The 6′ senior guard does a little bit of everything for his Griffins squad. He has great handles and is very quick and shifty, allowing him to beat the defense off the dribble and get to the rim, or stop on a dime and bury his turnaround jumper. He has great knowledge of the game and tremendous court vision, which make him a true floor general each time he steps on the court. Timmons is extremely quick off the floor and has great jumping ability, where he rebounds the ball exceptionally well from the guard position. In a great game against Victory Christion, Timmons lead his tam with 19 pts and also added 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the losing effort. Keep an eye on the senior guard as he looks to help lead Gateway Charter to another successful campaign in 2023-24.
The FAU commit is one of the more complete players in the state. Cason is a 3-level scorer, where he likes to play down-hill and get to basket but also knocks down the mid-range jumper consistently. He has unlimited range from the outside and is very efficient from behind-the-arc. He has elite handles and quickness, which to go along with his strong frame, make him real nightmare for opposing defenses. The 6’3″ senior isn’t just a scorer though, he’s an above-average rebounder and great at moving the ball around on offense to find an open look. Cason looks to build on a very successful junior season where he averaged 27.6 ppg, 8 rpg, and 5 apg, in hopes of leading his team deep into the postseason.
Highlights
Jahquez Outten
Jahquez Outten
The 5’11” freshman PG is very mature for his age. Even though he may be one of the youngest on the court, Outten looks to be the leader of this ECS squad. He’s very vocal on the floor and great at communicating with his teammates, and also leads by example by never taking a play off and always staying focused. He has an athletic frame and great strength for his age, which allow him to guard multiple positions and also be an asset on the boards. Outten likes to have the ball in his hands, but is a very unselfish player who looks to pass first and get his teammates involved. If left open he has the ability knock down the 3-ball consistently, where he went 2-2 from deep this past weekend. Continue to monitor this prospect as he grows his game and is constantly pushing himself to become a better player.
T.J. Ehindero
T.J. Ehindero
Ehindero is a 6’3″ CG with a true basketball body. He is long and athletic, and has great strength to go along with his above-average wingspan. He can score from just about anywhere, whether it’s down low in the paint or out behind-the-arc, he can hurt you in a number of ways. The senior prospect is a great rebounder and very efficient at getting points of the glass. His size and athleticism allow him to guard any position, and he’s not afraid to put his body on the line to take a charge or get on the floor for a loose ball. Ehindero is primed for a big senior year and will be a major contributor for ECS this season.
Micah Sanders
Micah Sanders
Sanders had a solid all-around outing in his teams losing effort this past weekend. The 6’5″ senior notched 16 pts with double-digit rebounds and a couple of blocks. His long, athletic frame allows him to be a presence in the middle where he can alter and block shots. He has great jumping ability where he rebounds the ball well on both ends of the court. Offensively, he likes to play down low and get to the rim, where he can finish with both hands. For a guy his size he as a solid mid-range game with a smooth jumper. Keep an eye on Sanders as he continues to improve his a game and make a name for himself in 2023-24.
