Lamont put up a game high 25 points while making some key plays down the stretch as St. Cats picked up their first win of the season. As Prairie was making a comeback late in the game, Lamont was able to seal the win at the FT line as the pressure didn’t faze the sophomore at all. Throughout the game he made plays with his speed in the open floor, as he can fly by defenders to give his team a numbers advantage off a steal or defensive rebound. Does a great job of scanning the floor which allows him to zip in a pass to a teammate as soon as an opening arrives. Offensively he knocked down a few threes and got to the rim for some strong finishes with his left hand. As always Lamont was bringing a ton of energy to the floor which got both the crowd and his teammates fired up. Averaging an impressive 29.7 ppg after three games.
DaRon Robinson
DaRon Robinson
DaRon did a great job defending in the paint against Prairie. He wasn’t giving up any easy looks inside, and did a nice job of preventing a D1 offered prospect from getting just about any high percentage shots up in the paint. He’s a strong and athletic 6’4 forward who showcased good timing on his jumps to block a few shots at the rim while also being a strong rebounding presence. Offensively he works for putback opportunities and is able to score off dump-off passes from his guards. Finished with 10 points in the win.
Mohammad Badwan
Mohammad Badwan
Typically it would be Ahmad Badwan Ahmad Badwan 6’3″ | SF Salam | 2024 WI garnering the spotlight Salam with his high scoring performances, but on Thursday Mohammad stepped up with a 32 point outburst of his own. The freshman is a solid shooter from three, but really impressed with his strength attacking the basket. As just a freshman he was overpowering defenders on his way to the rim, and once there he was able to finish at a high percentage. Came up with some key buckets down the stretch to help lead his team past St. Augustine.
Ahmad may have scored well below his average on Thursday, but he made some nice plays as a facilitator and was automatic in transition. He was a one-man press break at times for Salam, able to just weave his way through multiple defenders to get his team a numbers advantage attacking the basket. After splitting through the defense he did a nice job of finding his open shooters with kick-out passes, but could also get all the way to the rim and score. At 6’3 he has a big and strong frame that allows him to finish through contact with ease at the high school level. Scored 20 against St. Augustine and is averaging 30.6 ppg on the season.
Zamari got off to a slow start against Salam, but took over in the second half to keep his team in it. As just a freshman he already plays like an upperclassman, as he’s a poised ball handler who looks unfazed under pressure. He has the ball on a string and is so quick getting to his spots. Can pull-up for a jumper in an instant, and doesn’t need much space to do so. When he attacked off the dribble I thought he did a great job of using his eyes to freeze defenders, as they could never be sure if he intended on getting to the rim or kicking it to an open teammate. His lateral quickness translates to the defensive end as well as he’s able to sit deep in a stance to move his feet on the ball. Scored 30 against Salam to move his average to 28 ppg this season.
Highlights
Michael McNabb Michael McNabb 6’4″ | CG Grafton | 2024 State WI makes the game seem effortless. It’s almost like he’s one step ahead of everyone else, as he glides through defenders to get to the rim with ease. Against Whitefish Bay that resulted in a 35 point outburst before taking an early seat in the big win. McNabb was getting to the rim just about any time he wanted to, and he did such a good job of using a long stride to create that space needed to finish at the rim. Flashed some explosiveness in transition as well as he threw down a strong dunk with a defender jumping to contest.
Highlights
Juan helped Grafton cruise by Whitefish Bay with 23 points on 10-14 shooting while adding in 6 assists to his tally. He has the ability to play some iso ball when needed, but in this game was scoring within the flow of the offense which made him that much more efficient. If his defender sagged off he would confidently knock down a three. Play him too tight and he could beat you to the rim off the dribble or with a hard cut off the ball. Used his freakish athleticism to throw down a transition dunk, while also pinning a shot off the backboard with two hands. After that block he found a teammate with an outlet pass, and then sprinted up the floor to pick up an easy lay-up. One of the top 2025’s in the state.
