The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders got on the board right from the opening tip thanks to the shooting of Damon Phillips Damon Phillips 5'10" | CG Cardinal Gibbons | 2025 State NC but Ravenscroft School wouldn’t falter behind their duo of Jackson Rein Jackson Rein 6'6" | SF Ravenscroft | 2024 State NC and Chance Gladden Chance Gladden 6'4" | CG Ravenscroft | 2025 State NC . After one quarter, Ravenscroft led 17-16 after Cardinal Gibbons jumped out to an early 13-10 lead and rode the hot hand of Phillips.
In the second quarter, Rein would show his range as he opened the scoring effort with a 3-pointer to make it 20-16 in favor of the road team but Gibbons would continue to feed Phillips as he would knock down another 3-pointer of his own. The Ravens would go up 25-21 before the Crusaders would find some energy on defense and turn it into offense.
Trey Jones Trey Jones 6'6" | SF Cardinal Gibbons | 2026 State NC forced a steal and got a dunk to wake up the crowd and Phillips would force another steal that would lead to free throws for Cash McSweeney Cash McSweeney 6'8" | PF Cardinal Gibbons | 2025 State NC , sparking a 6-0 run. The Crusaders led 27-25 with 2:15 left in the first half. Cardinal Gibbons would hold a 3-point lead with 1:30 left in the half before Gladden would get a tough bucket plus a foul to tie things up at 28 before the half.
The pace picked up for both teams in the second half, though, the score still would remain close. Things remained tied at 41 after three quarters.
Rein would open the fourth quarter with another 3-pointer before a 5-0 run from Cardinal Gibbons triggered a timeout from the Ravens with 6:09 remaining in the game. Cardinal Gibbons would continue to apply pressure on both ends as back-to-back 3-pointers from Bryce Fitzsimmons would give the Crusaders a 54-46 lead with 3:14 left in the game.
Ravenscroft would try to keep the deficit within single digits but back-to-back dunks from McSweeney would take all of the momentum. Cardinal Gibbons would win going away 63-52.

McSweeney led quite the charge for Cardinal Gibbons as he came up big with 24 points to lead the offense. He came up with 13 points in the decisive fourth quarter to push the Crusaders over the hump. He held his own on the interior and found ways to get buckets when needed and gave the team all the momentum with late dunks to push the lead. He’s a prospect who continues to impress with this group in the 2025 class.
Phillips was impressive shooting and distributing the basketball at the lead guard spot. He made up for a few lapses with his ability to force turnovers with his ball pressure and got McSweeney and others going when the team needed a spark. He went 4-for-5 from deep to finish with 12 points and five assists.
Jones continue to work his way onto the PH radar. He held his own in defending Chance Gladden Chance Gladden 6’4″ | CG Ravenscroft | 2025 State NC and had two blocks and used his length to be a presence on the offensive end. He finished with seven points as he continues to find his way on the varsity stage with the Crusaders. He’s a two-way presence in NC’s 2026 class with room to grow.
Gladden was right behind Rein in the scoring column though, his scoring cooled to just six points and one field goal in the fourth as Cardinal Gibbons tightened things up on defense. He still managed to produce 22 points and had a number of assists at the lead guard role for Ravenscroft School. He’s another talented 2025 name in the Raleigh area for college programs of all levels to keep eyes on.
Highlights
Rein easily placed himself on the PH radar as an unsigned senior prospect to know at Ravenscroft School following his impressive performance. He produced 23 points while scoring in a variety of ways with his handling and length at 6-foot-6. He knocked down two 3-pointers and was a terror to deal with alongside Chance Gladden Chance Gladden 6’4″ | CG Ravenscroft | 2025 State NC despite the result. He’ll be an intriguing name to track as a DI/DII prospect over the next few months.

Fitzsimmons hit back-to-back 3-pointers to show his poise on the perimeter for the Crusaders and create some distance on the scoreboard when it was all said and done. He knocked down two huge 3-pointers to lift his team when it was needed. He’s a 2026 name off the bench to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
