Rivalries in high school basketball add an extra layer of excitement to the games, and these matchups in Maryland have certainly created some memorable moments:

Parkville HS vs. Dulaney HS:

Whenever defending Class 4A champions Parkville take on Dulaney it'll be one of the best games played in any division. Parkville ended the season with a 27-1 record and the trophy, while Dulaney finished 15-6, losing in the playoffs to the Knights. The Baltimore county standouts duked it out twice last year, including that thrilling playoff game, which ended with a Knights victory as [player_tooltip player_id='1579098' first='Josiah' last='Legree'] hit a game winning overtime three. Here's hoping this season is even better.

While both teams are retooling after several graduations and transfers, I'll be keeping my eye on a few returning players like Dulaney's swingman [player_tooltip player_id='1948345' first='Paul' last='Gross'] (CG 2024), two sport star Travin Lane (PG 2024). Gross is a lane crasher, passing lanes, cutting lanes and driving lanes, he's going downhill and to the basket. A heady player, it'll be up to players like Lane to set the tone for this Dulaney team after half their roster graduated.

It'll also be interesting to see how Parkville looks under new coach Ben Thompson, formerly at Gerstell, and who mans the helm with the transfer of [player_tooltip player_id='1579098' first='Josiah' last='Legree'] (PG 2024) to area titan St. Frances.

Wise HS vs. Bowie HS:

Up next is a showdown in PG County! If you like guards who score, Wise high school is the team to watch. [player_tooltip player_id='1956059' first='Jayson' last='Frost'] (2025 CG) can light up the scoreboard by himself, but he'll have plenty of help from player's like [player_tooltip player_id='1367432' first='Marcus' last='Rustin'] (PG 2024) and [player_tooltip player_id='1759609' first='Alexis' last='Obase'] (W 2024). Despite their firepower, it wasn't enough to get them past Bowie in last year's playoffs, as the Bulldogs ended the Puma's season in the Elite Eight.

Seneca Valley High School vs. Urbana:

We head to Frederick County for the next game, and what's sure to be an edge of your seat duel between SVHS and Urbana.

Urbana junior [player_tooltip player_id='1956023' first='RJ' last='Roche'] averaged 14.3 ppg last year. The 6”5 SG is an all around player, and a name I expect to see at the top of the league's scoring charts. Roche's teammate Christian Whitehead (CG 2024) is a defensive stalwart with definitive lead guard playmaking chops. On the other side, SVHS sports the best returning backcourt in Class 4A. There's not a lot that [player_tooltip player_id='1598804' first='Jaysen' last='Moise'] (CG 2025), and [player_tooltip player_id='1413940' first='Korey' last='Trone'] (PG 2024) can't do, whether setting teammates up, scoring for themselves, or defending their positions.

This game should have sparks flying from start to finish, with plenty of end-to-end action for the offensive minded, and lockdown defensive highlights for the folks who love a slog.

Class 4A in Maryland high school boys' basketball is always competitive and showcases some talented teams and players. The division consists of larger schools, so the competition is fierce, making for exciting games throughout the season. As with the rest of Maryland, it's a breeding ground for future basketball stars.
