Myers did not have the biggest numbers for Holy Cross on Saturday but he has the most long term potential on the roster, in my opinion. With great length and some skill, Cameron could end up a scholarship prospect if he goes Juco first.
Highlights
Only a freshman, Brown ran the show for DuBois. Every play had his stamp on it one way or another. Ja’Rye is going to go through some battles this season against top guards in Louisville but it will only make him better, long term.
Recently enrolled at Taylor County after moving from Georgia, Johnson has a nice game and doesn’t get sped up. He’s confident on the floor and gives Taylor County an edge that they lacked previously.
The best player I saw on Saturday, Quel’ron was unstoppable with the ball in his hands and recorded a ton of steals and even a couple of blocks on defense. It’s mind boggling how House doesn’t have a dozen D1 offers right now.
Melo has added some bulk to his frame and is starting to look more like a grown man and less like the Sophomore he was when I last saw him. Boone has always been athletic but he is getting better at changing speeds with the ball in his hands and is adding some midrange game.
McDaniels is a tough forward that can put the ball on the floor or is comfortable facing up and shooting. A lot of the offense ran through Lukus on Saturday against Douglass. Watch for him to be a top Senior in Louisville this season.
A brand new name on Saturday, Starks transferred into Newport from Ohio and looks like a top 5 player in the 2027 class. Long and athletic at 6’8, Griffin is still getting coordinated and lacks a mean streak but he’ll get there as he stops growing and starts adding to his frame.
Lockhart gave Newport all they wanted on Saturday, hitting at least 4 threes while I was there. He also got into a verbal sparring match with Tay Kinney and got the better of the highly touted Sophomore. Calloway could win the first region and if Conner shoots the ball like he did on Saturday, the Lakers will be hard to beat.
