There were a handful of prime-time matchups with ranked players and teams going head to head, three of which required overtime to decide. Below we break down some of the top performers from the opening matchups.
Aidan Fowler Aidan Fowler 5'10" | PG JSerra | 2024 State CA-S | 2024 | JSerra
Fowler is one of the most under-appreciated guards in the state and he made sure to show why on a big stage. The 6-footer is a confident ball handler, shot maker and playmaker whose maximum effort on each and every play impacts winning. Fowler scored 31 points with a variety of mid-range jumpers, three pointers off the bounce and tough drives and finishes off the dribble. Fowler made key plays late in the fourth quarter and in both overtime periods to help JSerra score an upset win over Roosevelt.
Brayden Burries Brayden Burries 6'4" | SF Roosevelt | 2025 State #13 Nation CA-S | 2025 | Roosevelt
Burries seems to always wind up on our recaps and it’s because he always produces. The 6-foot-5 swingman is one of the better scorers in the country and his ability to fill it up from all three levels of the floor is why he’s one of the most highly-recruited junior prospects in the country. Burries has earned five-star status and scored 29 points despite picking up his fourth foul in the opening seconds of the third quarter.
Brayden Kyman Brayden Kyman 6'8" | SF Santa Margarita | 2026 State CA-S | 2026 | Santa Margarita
Kyman is such a tough guy to guard at the high school level because of his ability to knock down catch and shoot three’s at 6-feet-7 but what makes him such an effective player is his feel and touch inside. Kyman fits in so well with how Santa Margarita runs its offense because of his inside-out scoring touch and passing acumen on the wing and out of the post. Kyman scored 21 points in an overtime win over Santa Monica.
Cameron McNamee Cameron McNamee 6'6" | SG Santa Margarita | 2024 State CA-S | 2024 | Santa Margarita
McNamee is one of the better “zone busters” in the state because of his catch-and-shoot consistency that stretches well-beyond the high school three-point line. The 6-foot-4 Dartmouth-bound shooting guard/wing is great at moving without the ball, finding open space and catching, elevating and releasing with quickness and a high release. McNamee matched his teammate with 21 points in the OT win over Santa Monica.
Holden Hendrickson | 2024 | Santa Monica
Hendrickson is as unassuming as they come as a small 5-foot-10 guard who isn’t a speedy ball-handler or freakish vertical athlete but what he is is smart, savvy and creative when using the dribble to get to his spots where he can hit pull-up jumpers or make a high IQ read to an open shooter. Hendrickson showed that it’s difficult to keep him in front because of his change of speeds and low center of gravity.
