Q&A with coach Nesheim
PHD: Could you write a couple sentences summing up last season?
“We ended last season 15-6, losing in Regional play to Hamlin. We were senior-heavy last season.“
PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?
“We had a very good offseason, especially with the inexperience that we have. This is probably the youngest team that I have ever had with the lack of varsity experience. We will play 2 to 3 sophomores, 2 or 3 freshmen and an 8th grader will be competing for quality varsity time. We spent the summer working on an offense that will fit our players this year.“
PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?
Aaron Zemlicka 6’2″ Senior – “He brings a lot of intensity to the game. He will have to play bigger than what he really is.“
Jack Helkenn 6’3″ Senior – “Jack has good size and has the ability to score going to the basketball and from long range.“
Griffen Musser 5’9″ Junior – “Will be thrown in to play some point guard. Griffen is a very good passer and defender.“
Emmerson Larson Emmerson Larson 6'3" | SG Clark-Willow Lake | 2026 State SD 6’2″ Sophomore – “More than likely Emmerson will lead us in scoring. Emmerson is a very athletic player who will play a wide range of positions.“
Christian Rameriz 6’0″ Senior – “Good Shooter with a great work ethic and super competitive.“
Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for in the near future?
Lincoln Reidburn 6’2″ Sophomore – “Another athletic player with good length. Lincoln has a nose for the ball and is a great rebounder.“
Bo Begeman Bo Begeman 6'4" | SF Clark/Willow Lake | 2027 State SD 6’4″ Freshman – “Bo has great length and is a true gym rat. We will look to him to give us quality minutes and take on some of the scoring“
Sully Felberg Sully Felberg 6'6" | SF Clark/Willow Lake | 2028 SD 6’4″ 8th grader – “He is still growing, Sullivan can play every position on the court, you will see him at times run point guard for us. Sully will be looked at to do some of the scoring for us.“
Jakob Steen Jakob Steen 5'9" | SF Clark/Willow Lake | 2027 State SD 5’9″ Freshman – “Jacob is a complete competitor. He does a lot of the little things that will help a team win. His true grit will get him on the court.“
PHD: What style of basketball will your team play?
“Our style of play will greatly change as we get playing throughout the season so it fits our players. We want to make sure we are using our athleticism and length to our strength.“
PHD: What are a couple of your team goals this year?
“We want to make sure we are getting better every day and every practice and every game. The future is really bright with this team we just have to make sure we are competitive every game and improving.“
Best of luck to the Cyclones this season!

PHD: Could you write a couple sentences summing up last season?
“Ended the season 10-11. We were disappointed to end the season in the 1st round of playoffs, but our young players learned some awesome lessons that we hope to build on this year.“
PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?
“Our offseason was very productive, a majority of our team played on a summer travel team, coached by University of South Dakota Hall of Famer Josh Mueller, who continues to play a big role in helping us reach our next level.“
PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?
“ Brodi Sundall Brodi Sundall 6'0" | CG Wall | 2024 State SD (Sr) – Had a good Junior season; but dealt with a shoulder injury for its’ entirety. (he was able to have surgery immediately after last season and has since made a full recovery). Very smart player who does not make hardly any mistakes. Has been starting varsity since his freshman year. Great down low has a very nice pull-up jump shot. Excellent defender. Very great work ethic. Look for him to have a breakout season and catch the eye of some college coaches.“
“ Ben Amundson Ben Amundson 6'2" | SF Wall | 2024 State SD (Sr.) – We look for Ben to play a pivotal role in all areas this year.“
PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?
“The entirety of our 15-man varsity roster has the potential for a breakout season. For a small school, we are very talented and skilled. As previously mentioned, many of the players we able to put some valuable time in this off-season; and we look for them to make a statement this season along with the Senior leadership.“
PHD: What style of basketball will your team play?
“We will play very aggressive defense, hoping to create 25% or more of our points off turnovers. Offensively, we are very skilled; and will look to use our athleticism in the transition game.“
PHD: What are a couple of your team goals this year?
“We want to reach our potential; if we can do such; we feel like the sky is the limit. We are certainly a bit of an underdog with our youth; but if we can get rolling, we will make a deep push into the postseason.“
PHD: Who are some of the top teams in your Region?
“White River- They will be a very solid team with Nic Marshall Nic Marshall 6'1" | PG White River | 2024 State SD returning for his senior year. Along with Jordan Uhlir Jordan Uhlir 6'6" | PF White River | 2024 State SD Transfer from STM. We will enjoy the challenge down on their home court this regular season.“
