Continue ReadingWe recently released updated rankings in the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026. But what would the rankings look like if we took all of those classes and threw them together? This is our Iowa Top 50 Prospects, Regardless of Class. As is the case with all of our rankings, this is a ranking based on college projection and potential, not necessarily who the 50 “best” players in the state will be this season. We continue our countdown with a look at prospects 41 through 45. (A hat tip to Scott Burgess at Prep Hoops Illinois for the idea for this series of articles.)
(41) Treyton McCain Treyton McCain 6'1" | PG Decorah | 2024 State IA | PG | Decorah | 2024
McCain missed his entire junior year recovering from a torn ACL, but came back for his 17U summer with the Iowa Barnstormers and looked like he was pretty much back to his old self. When he’s healthy, few players in the state are as fast as he is end-to-end with the ball in his hands, and he uses that speed to his advantage on both ends of the floor. He’s a good on-ball defender who moves his feet, and is a creative passer who sees the floor well.
(42) Grant Tigges Grant Tigges 6'4" | SG Waukee Northwest | 2024 State IA | SG | Waukee Northwest | 2024
When he has his feet set, few players in the state can torch the nets the way that Tigges can. He moves really well without the ball in his hands and has a lightning-quick release off the catch. As he showed at the state tournament last season, however, he can also put the ball on the floor and create looks for himself. Following the graduations of Pryce Sandfort and Cade Kelderman, Tigges will have a chance to showcase his all-around offensive talents as a junior for the Wolves.
(43) Jalen Kirkpatrick Jalen Kirkpatrick 6'6" | SF Grundy Center | 2025 State IA | SF | Grundy Center | 2025
A big wing with a huge wingspan at 6-6, Kirkpatrick can do a little bit of everything for you. He’s a good shooter off the catch, he rebounds well on both ends of the floor, and he sees the floor well and is a good, willing passer. On the defensive end, he has the size to defend in the paint, and the lateral movement to defend on the perimeter.
(44) Zach Driscoll Zach Driscoll 6'0" | SG Decorah | 2025 State IA | CG | Decorah | 2025
Driscoll is one of the most skilled guards in the 2025 class, a versatile scorer who can get to the rim, where he’s a creative finisher. He has a really good mid-range game, and while he needs to add some consistency to his 3-point stroke, he’s a good enough shooter from deep that it certainly needs to be respected. He has a quick first step and is a good ball-handler. He has good instincts on the defensive end, jumping passing lanes and creating chaos.
(45) Ryan Watters Ryan Watters 6'6" | PF Central DeWitt | 2025 State IA | PF | Central DeWitt | 2025
Watters is a player who could make a major leap up the 2025 and overall rankings next season. He’s an athletic 6-6/6-7 forward with good hands, soft touch, and pretty solid footwork around the bucket. He’s working to extend his range, which would be a huge step in his development. He can protect the rim defensively and is a good enough athlete to defend on the perimeter.
