Continue ReadingWe recently released updated rankings in the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026. But what would the rankings look like if we took all of those classes and threw them together? This is our Iowa Top 50 Prospects, Regardless of Class. As is the case with all of our rankings, this is a ranking based on college projection and potential, not necessarily who the 50 “best” players in the state will be this season. We continue our countdown with a look at prospects 11 through 15. (A hat tip to Scott Burgess at Prep Hoops Illinois for the idea for this series of articles.)
(11) Trevin Jirak Trevin Jirak 6'9" | C Valley | 2025 State #349 Nation IA | C | Valley | 2025
Jirak is a mobile big man with switchability on the defensive end of the floor, which is something that college coaches covet in modern basketball. He can hold his own against smaller players on the perimeter, and is a good shot blocker in the paint. He has advanced footwork for a young big man and soft touch around the bucket with either hand. If he’s able to add a little bit of range to his game, he could be a top 5 overall prospect in the state.
(12) Cade Courbat Cade Courbat 6'8" | PF Cedar Falls | 2024 State IA | PF | Cedar Falls | 2024
Courbat is one of the most athletic big men that the state has seen in recent years, an explosive leaper who can protect the rim at an extremely high level. Like Jirak, he’s a switchable defender who makes a huge impact on that end of the floor and provides a ton of value as a defensive Swiss Army knife. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he’s improving rapidly on that end, showing increased confidence in his ball handling, taking bigger defenders off the dribble and getting to the rim for powerful finishes.
(13) Owen Larson Owen Larson 6'1" | PG Estherville Lincoln Central | 2024 State IA | PG | Estherville Lincoln Central | 2024
Larson, who has committed to South Dakota State, is a lightning-quick guard who can score from all three levels in bunches. He’s a high IQ player who knows how to get to his spots, and he pairs his handles with great footwork to create additional space to get his shot off. He sees the floor exceptionally well and is a creative passer who can shine as a scorer or facilitator.
(14) Evan Jacobson Evan Jacobson 6'7" | C Waukee | 2026 State IA | C | Waukee | 2026
Jacobson is the type of high-upside big man that could make this 14th ranking look really, really bad in the next year. He’s a mobile big man who can finish above the rim with authority, control the glass on either end of the floor, and protect the paint on the defensive end. He’s still a bit raw, but he’s developing quickly and has the combination of size and mobility that coaches are looking for.
(15) Anthony Galvin Anthony Galvin 6'0" | PG Cedar Falls | 2025 State IA | PG | Cedar Falls | 2025
Galvin was one of the most productive players in the state over the summer, regardless of class. He’s an elite shooter off the dribble, getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the bounce and he has seemingly unlimited range. In addition to his dynamic shooting ability, he’s also a skilled playmaker who sees the floor well and gets his teammates involved at a high clip. He’s a solid on-ball defender with quick hands and good lateral movement.
