Check out some of the top performers from games that have occurred this week, from high level teams clashing on their own, to teams battling down at Carmel Christian in the Phenom Hoops Carmel Tip-Off.
Wilkins was the engine that made Christ School go this week as the Greenies went 2-0 with wins over Gaston Christian and Legacy Early College. He averaged 22.5 points, 5 assists, and shot 50% from the field, showing off efficiency and creation skills. He’s an undersized guard that makes up for it in a huge way with his shot creation from multiple levels and his playmaking ability. He can really shoot it from deep but also has the ability to create off the bounce for mid-range jumpers as well. Holding offers from McNeese State, Jacksonville, SIUE, and others, his senior year looks to be getting off to a great start, and we should see him continue to garner plenty of college interest.
Highlights
Swindell impressed as Caldwell Academy got off to a hot start over Carlisle (VA) on Tuesday with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists to help pace the Eagles. He’s primarily been a scorer every time I’ve watched him play, with a college ready frame and a knack for getting to his spots. However, the 6 assists and 10 rebounds are a great sign of a developing game, with an improved rebounding acumen and passing ability key to his goal of picking up collegiate offers. Look for him to continue to make an impact for CA as they look to compete for a state title this year.
Rowe was a stat-sheet stuffer on Tuesday in their win over Cape Fear Christian, almost getting to a triple double with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. He’s incredibly athletic and made plenty of contributions on the defensive end that didn’t quite show up in the stat sheet, but that also translated to offense as well. On that end he’s an athletic slasher that puts pressure on the rim and has the vision to find teammates when the defenses help. He’s got an offer from Sandhills CC and should expand on that during his senior season.
Vera has put together a consistent string of displays over the course of the first week, averaging 22.7 PPG and 5.7 RPG on 65% shooting from the field. He’s a tough, crafty guard that can fill it up like no one’s business on the offensive end, and has the positional size to continue to excel at a collegiate level. Next on the agenda is for him to continue to develop defensive to where he is a problem, not just an average player. He may be headed towards a stock rising season with this start, though.
Highlights
Taylor was an explosive slasher as he always has been in his team’s games this weekend at the Carmel Tip Off, posting 22 and 29 point games as they went 1-1. He’s incredibly athletic and a nightmare when he gets straight line drives, but is starting to show more touch and precision as a shooter. He knocked down some mid-range shots and showed off better shot quality and selection than previously seen. He’s got offers from UNCG, Radford, Chicago State, and UT Chattanooga, but expect many more LM and MM offers to come rolling in as the season continues along.
