Continue ReadingAdrian Shackleton should see a lot of the ball with this Legacy team in 2023. He is an impressive shot-creator and can score from all three levels. In the pick-and-roll drills, he showed a tendency to split the hedge and get straight downhill where he has a strong pull-up game. Adrian also made some good plays on defense reading plays and picking pockets.
Travelle had a terrific shooting day at practice Friday. Early in the transition drills, he found open space on the wings. As he began to knock shots down, the defenders began to get closer and limit his air space. But he kept knocking shots down. Most of his shot-making was from the perimeter, but Bryson also showed that he could knock down shots off the dribble from the mid-range. Travelle says he recently received an offer from Incarnate Word, to go along with previous offers from Chicago State and Elizabeth City State.

TJ was limited in practice Friday due to a minor right knee injury, but what he did participate in he impressed in. Copeland is the most college-ready prospect that the Lions have this season. He has a massive frame and will be one of the most dominant bodies in the NIBC. He also made up for lost time in practice by staying late to work on his jump shot, both from the perimeter and the mid-range, which is an aspect of his game that is already very good. From a recruiting perspective, TJ says that he is hearing from Michigan State most often right now.

JJ Rembert – who is originally from New York – is the lone in-state transfer for Legacy this year after making the move from Nation Ford. JJ is an extremely shifty guard who has all the modern body movements needed for a smaller player to create space. I think he will fit well with this Lion roster this season. They don’t need him to be a high-volume scorer, they need him to run the offense and put his teammates in good spots, which he is definitely capable of.
Hansen is the other Legacy Lion that we have in the Top 10 of our most recent Class of 2024 Rankings. Cole is a prolific shooter and will be one of the best in the NIBC this season. The mechanics of his jump shots are both pure and consistent, but he can also score off the dribble. In practice Friday, he was also very vocal and his leadership will be important to the team this year. Cole says he has been receiving interest from the College of Charleston and Furman recently, and he plans to visit them after the scholastic season.

Gabe has tremendous potential. He is a supreme athlete who will make highlight plays at both rims as a lob threat and shot blocker. He was the focal point of many of the defensive pick-and-roll drills, working on switches, hard hedges, and ice coverage. Grant has good size to go with his athleticism and will see more exposure as the NIBC season goes on.

McGee is the lone underclassman on this Legacy Roster, but he didn’t stand out as inferior to any of his teammates. In fact, he was very impressive in one of the early transition drills and was a dominant interior force. He is a strong finisher in the paint and has a knack for finding offensive rebounds. In the pick-and-roll drills, he had some good plays in rotation and help defense. He might not have massive numbers this year, but I think Zion could have a big future for the Lions.
Kyelin King is another impressive shooter. He is a lefty that has quick release, but also makes plays on the defensive end. He is a very good athlete who moves his feet well and can contest and block shots. With Legacy having a smaller roster this season, King will have an important role to do just that – play defense and make shots.

Deston also had a good practice on Friday. He is solid in a lot of aspects of the game and will get minutes in a couple of different positions for the Lions this year. Christian knocked down a few perimeter shots and played consistent defense. He also has a good basketball IQ and is a good passer, which can help connect the offense at times.
