It is time to recap this week and look at what our exciting prospects did. Here are the player evaluations from a few of the prospects that I saw in Week 1 of the 2023-24 season.
Bloomington North: vs Bedford North Lawrence (11/21)
Williams did was he does best in this game: hit big time shots. Looked a lot more comfortable off the ball but also created his own looks pretty well. Displayed a strong first step on the drive. What impressed me the most was how active he was on the defense and crashing the boards. So much potential. Finished with 13 pts.
Lindman is one of the rising prospects that many have their eyes on. Showed high agility 15ft and in and was not afraid to take a pull-up jumper when he felt it. Started off kind of slow but would take over at times. Only issue I had was he would not take over when he needed to. Just an overall strong, versatile offensive threat. Had a game-high 18 pts.
Highlights
Cross Jr. is only a freshman but is the starting lead guard for the Cougars. He is tall and lanky for his age and showed some upside on both ends of the floor. On the defensive end, thought he did a good job of being active in the passing lanes which would lead to multiple steals. On the offensive end, thought he was real cool and calm and stepped up a lot of times. Was one of my standout players from week one.
Bloomfield: at Owen Valley (11/22)
Neill was by far the best player I watched in all of week one. He caused major mismatch problems going against Owen Valley with his size at the guard position and was scoring so well from 15ft and out. While he was lights out from behind the arc, he struggled at times finishing around the rim so that is an area of improvement. He is an overall high IQ player and is one of the best shooters in southern Indiana. Keep an eye on Neill.
While he may be extremely small, I was real impressed with how Patterson played on the ball. Was arguably the best passer I saw last week and displayed excellent court vision. Also would push the tempo at times. Good backcourt piece for Blake Neill Blake Neill 6’4″ | SG Bloomfield | 2026 State IN .
Bedford North Lawrence: at Bloomington North (11/21)
Matson was the best player on the Stars and one of the few reasons they were able to go into Bloomington North and get the upset win. Very athletic guard/wing that can score both on and off the ball. Arguably is at his best right now when he can attack off cuts and make plays at the rim. A sneaky under-the-radar name in southern Indiana. Finished with a team-high 17 pts.
Highlights
Trace Rynders – 5’8 2024 PG:
Rynders is one of the senior leaders on the Bedford team and played like one last week. Was extremely scrappy as a defender going at the bigger Bloomington guards. On the offensive end, he was real explosive on the ball and has many strong baseline drives.
Noah Godlevske Noah Godlevske 6'1" | SG Bedford North Lawrence | 2024 IN – 5’8 2024 PG:
A coach’s son that was another huge reason for the Stars to win this game. Finished with 14 pts on the night and displayed some incredible IQ on and off the ball. Not the biggest player on the floor, but can create so much around him and his own look as well. Was impressed with his passing and smooth pull-up jumpers.
Logan Miracle – 6’4 2025 PF/C:
Miracle is the big man for the Stars this year and thought he did a real solid job in his role. He has a big frame that takes up a ton of space in the paint and is a tough player to move around. Was real active on the boards getting rebounds and showed some smoothness
Owen Valley: vs Bloomfield (11/22)
Derrek Atkinson – 6’4 2024 F:
While Owen Valley showed major struggles during this game, senior forward Derrek Atkinson was a bright spot. Really liked his hustle on both ends of the floor and always played extremely aggressive. Was a little wild on the offensive end at times but always competed on the defensive end and used his strength and athletic ability very well.
