First, DePere is the raining, undefeated, defending, division one state title holder; that alone carries the weight. But, on the other side you have Wauwatosa West, who is trying to prove themselves, won a share of the greater metro, and has some star power in regard to prospects in the state. Then we had some interesting individual matchups to consider. Who would guard Zach Kinziger Zach Kinziger 6'3" | SG De Pere | 2025 State #127 Nation WI ? Hornseth vs Rogers. Could Jake Hansen Jake Hansen 6'1" | SG Wauwatosa West | 2025 State #331 Nation WI get hot? How about the overall team size of DePere when thinking about Willihnganz, Gergorie. The fact that DePere shouldn’t get rattled ever. Or Tosa West’s newcomers?

MJ Kloskey 6’4″ W 2026
The game started off fast and maybe not the most crisp that one might expect. Moses Long Moses Long 6'3" | SG Wauwatosa West | 2024 State WI was guarding Kinziger and was doing a serviceable job against the Wisconsin commit. Kinziger had to work hard for what he got but was able to get his shots off and had some really nice finishes at the hoop. The matchup between Hornseth vs Rogers was a premier battle. Rogers might have won early but as soon as Hornseth step outside during the game he proved his mettle. Will had two or three drives from the right-wing position that were sweet and smooth for the 6’8″ player. Hornseth even had a tremendous block later on in the second half while DePere was mounting a comeback.
Tosa West jumped all over the Redbirds early and led by as much as 17pts. I feel what led to the early and large lead was a few factures deep. Tyler Boesel Tyler Boesel 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa West | 2024 State WI ‘s play and individual matchup prove effective. He was a constant weapon on offense, making a few different moves to the hoops. Made a couple of follow-up baskets just by running the floor. Jalen Brown Jalen Brown 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa West | 2027 State WI ‘s leadership and controlling the rock was another factor in Tosa’s lead. He drove and either scored or got his teammates involved and was the main mover of the flow of the game.
In the second half, DePere made a great come back, just as you would expect them to do. Kinziger hit a couple of deep balls. Pryce Gregorie nail one from long distance. Will Hornseth Will Hornseth 6'8" | PF De Pere | 2024 State #208 Nation WI moves to the hoop contributed for buckets. Then Tosa got caught in a rotation challenge with a couple of personal mismatches. That plus DePere defensive pressure, caused some timely turnovers, and what you had amounted to a two-point game late. I thought several players stayed calm, showed leadership traits, and proved to be champions in their own right.
This was just a so-called scrimmage, a gathering or teams one week after official practices could start. An atmosphere where no official scores were kept. No stats will ever be known or probably remembered. But it felt, for those that attended, to almost to be a mid-season high tension game.
Thank you to the kids & prospects of both schools in treating us to the competition. It was a great show to learn from.
