NBA trainer Ryan Goodson worked with 12 top players from District 10 on an array of skills. Five players stood out (more to come in part 2).
Jack Burchard has rapidly developed into a top player and one of District 10’s top shooters. That said, Burchard’s recent physical growth, both in terms of height and build, has noticeably improved his game and made him more than just a singular shooting threat. His shooting stroke is a thing of beauty — smooth, consistent, and accurate. When left open, Jack is almost automatic, punishing defenses that fail to close out on him quickly. Additionally, Burchard’s speed and court vision particularly shine during fast breaks. His adeptness at making precise passes off the dribble in high-tempo situations is a testament to his high basketball IQ. He knows when to push the pace and when to pull back, making smart decisions that lead to high-percentage scoring opportunities.
Deontae Wilson
Deontae Wilson
Deontae Wilson, a 6’0″ sophomore shooting guard, is swiftly establishing himself as one of the top talents in District 10, thanks to a combination of athleticism and burgeoning skill. His vertical leap sets him apart, making him an above the rim player. His ability to elevate higher than most defenders gives him the advantage of getting his shot off cleanly, even in contested situations. This skill, paired with a strong body, also makes him an excellent finisher at the rim. Wilson can absorb contact from defenders and still maintain control to complete plays. As a physical and athletic player, Wilson’s style of play is aggressive and direct, often leading to high-percentage shots and drawing fouls. His youth is another exciting aspect of his profile, suggesting that he has significant room to grow, both physically and in terms of skill. As he continues to mature, his game will evolve. The term ‘raw talent’ best describes Wilson at this stage of his career. He shows the foundational qualities of a top player: physical attributes, natural skills, and a competitive mentality. With continued development and refinement of his game, including the potential expansion of his shooting range and ball-handling skills, Wilson is poised to become a more dynamic and versatile player.
Lucas Luteran continues to improve, and District 10 is starting to take notice. Offensively, Luteran’s shooting is a standout aspect of his game. He possesses an excellent midrange jump shot and has the ability to extend his shooting range to the three-point line, especially when he gets his feet set. Luteran’s physical attributes complement his shooting skills. His strength is apparent, while his decent quickness allows him to create space. While there is room for refinement in his game, particularly in achieving consistency, Lucas possesses the foundational skills necessary to be a top player in District 10.
Nando Mirarchi’s development over the summer has been remarkable, notably enhancing his shooting and physicality.Mirarchi’s shooting stroke with his feet set has always been a strong point in his game. However, the dedication he showed in the offseason to improve his shooting off the dribble has paid significant dividends, making him a more versatile offensive threat. Another notable aspect of Mirarchi’s development is his physical growth. Gaining a few inches in height and adding muscle due to his commitment to the weight room have made him a more physical player. He excels in fast-break situations, where his vision enables him to make smart decisions, whether it’s taking the shot or dishing out assists to teammates. Mirarchi has a mature understanding of the game, knowing when to pass and when to capitalize on scoring opportunities, a skill not commonly seen in players of his age.Additionally, his fearlessness in driving the lane against larger defenders speaks to his confidence and competitive nature. He doesn’t shy away from challenges.
