Phillips 70 – Proviso East 67
This matchup was a fast-paced old fashion scoring race. Both teams traded buckets and the lead throughout this game. Proviso had a huge lift from Isiah Perkins who scored many points on transition plays and he hit a pair of threes in the second half finishing with 23 points which wasn’t enough. Phillips got a lift from Florida transfer EJ Horton who looked great playing free hitting multiple three-pointers and using his athleticism to score over players on fastbreaks. His biggest play was on the defensive end when he chased down a layup to block it out of bounds. Finished with 20 points. The biggest player for Phillips was the smallest player on the court in St Rita transfer Amari Edwards Amari Edwards 5'8" | PG Phillips | 2025 State IL who was all over the court making shots from all three levels. What I liked most about Edwards was his passing on the move and how well he crashed the boards on missed shots as he finished with 21 points in the win.
Kenwood 77 – Hansberry 54
The #1 team in the city got a scrappy Hansberry squad that was looking to make a name for itself in the city. Led by brothers Al Brooks Al Brooks 6'6" | SF Hansberry | 2025 State #239 Nation IL Jr. and Ikee Brooks Ikee Brooks 5'11" | PG Hansberry | 2025 State IL the Bengals tried to jump out early. Al Brooks Al Brooks 6'6" | SF Hansberry | 2025 State #239 Nation IL was the catalyst as he scored by attacking the rim off the dribble finishing with tough layups. He at times looked like the best prospects on the court blocking several shots off the backboard. He ran out of gas because the Broncos had too many weapons to contest with. He finished with 18 points. Ikee was able to use his speed later in the game to score at the rim. He made a pair of threes late and finished the game with 20 points. The Broncos were led by DePaul Commit Chris Riddle Chris Riddle 6'5" | SF Kenwood | 2024 State #204 Nation IL who splashed 5 three-pointers as well as several dunks to lead all scorers with 26 points. Kenwood also was able to get a lift from transfer Rajan Roberts Rajan Roberts 6'2" | PG Kenwood | 2026 State IL who looked good scoring from all three levels. His drives to the rim were strong as he used spin moves and step-through moves to evade defenders going for16 points.
