Running the court with those No. 1 options will be a group of prospects who are not household names yet, but they will contribute for their varsity teams this winter and potentially play at the next level.
Today we want to highlight five of these BAL athletes so this season when someone asks you, “What’s His Name?” you will know the answer.
Derek Bergin – 6’3″ / 2024 / Calvary Christian / Wing: When he is not dominating the jump competitions at the PIAA state track and field championships, Bergin is a 1st Team All-League performer on the hoops court. Bergin is a slasher hybrid-forward with crafty dribble drive skills. Thus, he can attack the rim from the wing or the baseline. Bergin can also hit stop and pop jumpers on those drives. His 3-point shot is a developing weapon as well.
Kendall Bratten – 6’5″ / 2025 / Phil-Mont Christian / Shooting Guard: With Class of 2023 standout Jack Swider (Washington College) having graduated, this 1st Team All-League selection will become the No. 1 option at PMC. Good news, Bratten possesses the skills and basketball IQ to handle that promotion. Bratten is an efficient scorer in the mid-range as well as in the paint. He is also beast on the offensive glass. In 2022-23 Bratten averaged 12 points to along with 6.8 rebounds per game. He posted several double-doubles last season.
Luke Bushra – 6’5″ / 2024 / Delaware County Christian / Hoops2Life / Power Forward: Based on his standout performances in recent months, we are predicting a breakout season for Bushra (4 ppg. & 3 rpg. in 2022-23). Bushra is a skilled and physical old school forward prospect. He does his scoring damage in the lane via quick post ups, face up jumpers, flip hooks, and the offensive glass. His jump shot is accurate in the mid-range too. On defense, Bushra uses his intimidating shot blocking to anchor the back end for DCCS.
Beau Lyren Beau Lyren 6'2" | PG Delaware County Christian | 2025 State PA – 6’0” / 2025 / Delaware County Christian / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: Lyren’s reputation as an automatic long-distance shooter proceeds him. But if coaches watch this multi-skilled guard for an extended period, they will learn that Lyren (11.7 ppg. last season) is also a high IQ primary ball handler who can score or distribute off the dribble. Plus, Lyren plays with poise and rarely commits a turnover.
Vaughan Martin – 5’10″ / 2024 / Dock Mennonite / PSB Philly / Combo Guard: This versatile prospect can burn as a distributing floor general or as a bucket getting two guard. As a facilitator, Martin displays a high IQ, values the rock, and delivers timely dimes. When he is in scoring mode, Martin can produce points off the dribble via pull up jumpers, his creative floater game and by getting all the way to the cup. He is a lights out 3-point shooter too.
