Expert Analysis
Carey Smith | Prep Hoops Scout
In 2023-24 Lyren played the bulk of his minutes at shooting guard where he averaged 12 points per contest. However, towards the end of last season Lyren started getting run as a primary ball handler. Lyren took advantage of those increased touches by scoring more. Included in that stretch was a 19-point (4 triples) post season game against Jenkintown. Lyren continued to play more point guard minutes on the July grassroots circuit as well as during recent fall ball action. Back in mid-July he posted 31 points (9 threes) in the HG Summer Jam Fest title game. In recent weeks he was named as a top performer at several fall showcases. In addition to splashing triples, Lyren can hit mid-range jumpers as well as runners. He is an elusive ball handler and owns a high IQ. That combination enables Lyren to score and distribute off the bounce.

Lyren’s smooth point guard skills were on full display at the Big 64. His dribble drive moves consistently got him into the paint for floaters and lay-ins. On the rare occasion where the defense was able to cut him off, Lyren executed kick out passes or dropped a dime to a teammate cutting to the rack. Lyren scored and distributed in the open court too. As a bonus to his off the dribble as well as transition skills, Lyren is a highly accurate 3-point shooter.
