The 2023-2024 Florida High School Basketball season tips off in a little over a month and Prep Hoops is your destination for basketball coverage 365 days a year. Prep Hoops Florida is taking a look at the preseason all-state teams for the upcoming season. We have a lot of new faces in new places this season and are excited to tip-off next month. Here are the nominees for the Class 3A Player of the Year this season. Voting will end on Tuesday, October 17.
Kent Jackson Kent Jackson 6'3" | CG Episcopal | 2024 State FL
A 6-2 senior guard and Jacksonville University commit. Averaged 18.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game as a junior last season. Jackson is also one of the top sharpshooters in the state of Florida for the senior class.
A 6-0 junior guard who averaged 13.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a sophomore last season. Darner holds offers from Dartmouth, Jacksonville, Le Moyne, North Florida, Stetson and Youngstown State.
Herbert “Trey” Wilson III
A 6-4 senior guard who is strong and athletic when finishing around the rim. Wilson averaged 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game as a junior last season.
Jermaine Council Jermaine Council 6'1" | PG King's Academy | 2024 State FL
A 6-1 senior guard who transferred from The King’s Academy to Cardinal Newman during the off-season. Council is a strong and athletic guard who plays both ends of the floor with great energy. Council averaged 17.3 points per game as a junior last season where most of his scoring came at the rim. He also shot 49 percent from beyond the arc (56-of-114) from 3-point range last season.
Brandon Bass Jr Brandon Bass Jr 6'5" | SG Windermere Prep | 2026 State FL .
A 6-5 sophomore guard who is also a left-handed sharpshooter. Bass has improved his offensive versatility where he can score on all three levels. Bass currently holds offers from Houston, LSU, Stanford, UCF and several others.
A 7-0 sophomore center who runs the floor exceptionally well for his size. He is a dominate rebounder, shot blocker and provides a ton of length on both sides. Huan holds notable offers from Florida, Gonzaga and several others. He has good hands and is a game-changer when being aggressive towards the basket.
Travis Triplett Travis Triplett 6'9" | SF Carrollwood Day | 2026 State FL
The 6-9 sophomore power forward has a lot of potential with his length, size and strength around the rim. Triplett is unafraid to finish through traffic at the front of the rim as well as dominate on the glass. He is also quick on the defensive end for his size where his skillset allows him to cover the perimeter.
A 6-4 junior small forward with a highly-touted IQ and skilled on the interior. Allen plays with a load of physicality on both ends of the floor using his strength and body to finish at the rim.
Jermal Jones Jr Jermal Jones Jr 6'5" | CG Bell Creek Academy | 2026 State FL .
A 6-5 sophomore combo guard has proven he can be a big-time prospect as he plays with a ton of strength and confidence when he has the basketball in his hands.
Amari “AJ” Cummings
A 6-4 sophomore combo guard who is an athletic two-way guard who can shoot it efficiently from beyond the arc. He is also very long and rebounds very well from the guard position showing a ton of athleticism on the glass.
