There is a segment of Indiana High School Basketball purists that simply will never approve of kids and their families seeking different opportunities. While recruiting and influencing high school student-athletes to change schools for basketball-specific reasons is thought of as “not good” by a consensus of fans, there are always unique circumstances to each transfer that most will never know. More times than not, there are not the nefarious reasons behind a transfer that many people seem to want to believe. Sometimes it truly can be as simply as a family moving to a new place. In Indiana, with open enrollment, that also means that when entering a new area student-athletes have the right to choose the situation they deem to be the best fit. There are enough basketball powerhouses in every major metropolitan area that “recruiting” in the traditional sense doesn’t even come into play. The schools and programs simply recruit themselves based on the banners on the wall and the alumni playing in college and beyond. With all that being said, let’s take a look at some of the top transfers throughout the state of Indiana entering the 2023-2024 high school basketball season. Let’s take a look at the top transfers from areas that we have not yet covered.
The ink is barely even dry on this transfer yet as Hogg has made the decision to slide from Seton Catholic to Richmond High School for his senior season. He joins a talented Red Devils backcourt that could now be the favorite to win Sectional 9. Hogg is an excellent playmaker with some real shiftiness off of the bounce and explosiveness at the end of his drives. The additional weapon will make the Richmond backcourt very, very difficult to stop.

One of the better Class of 2026 point guards that you may not be familiar with yet, L’homme ran the show for the Fishers Junior Varsity squad last season. Now, he will play for Lawrence Central High School as a sophomore and take on a playmaking role in the Bears backcourt. He is very quick off of the dribble, creates his own shot from all three levels, and is a willing and able passer. Definitely a name to remember.

Reich has been highly productive this fall at the Metro Indy Fall League putting up several big scoring numbers that should translate to the high school season at Speedway after coming over from Brownsburg. The strong, 6’2″ guard is a very good three-point shooter and has the physicality to play through contact on his way to the rim off of the dribble as well. Definitely will be a go-to scoring threat for the Sparkplugs this winter.

Prior to his junior season Sloss made the move north from Evansville Harrison High School to Brownsburg. The long, athletic, 6’5″ wing has high-level two-way upside. He is a versatile defender that can hold his own on the perimeter and has the length to be disruptive around the basket. Offensively he handles the ball well for his size and can knife his way through the defense off of the dribble. Look for him to step right into a primary role for the Bulldogs this season.
Compared to some of the other, more recent, transfers, this one almost gets forgot about because it was announced in the summer. After three highly successful seasons at Linton-Stockton, Walters will play his senior season at Terre Haute North High School. The 6’5″ ball-handler is perfect example of a modern day point forward. He has the size and interior skill of a forward but handles the ball and facilitates like a point guard. Walters can absolutely be a primary ball handler at the college level. His two-way ability in the backcourt is very intriguing.

If you are looking for a sleeper, under-the-radar team in Class 2A this season look know further than Westview. Zepp is a talented 6’7″ forward that was impressive for the 5 Star program throughout the summer and solidified himself as an intriguing small college prospect. He is a versatile offensive player that can score on the interior and stretch the floor out to three-point range. Comes to Westview from Northridge High School.
