With this position constantly changing with how it’s utilized, we can see some talented players come out of this class. Here are my top centers for the 2024 class part II.
Rink is a double-double machine that does most of his damage in the painted area. At 6’8″ he can play and guard multiple positions. He uses his quickness to get by slower defenders. He has a strong upper body he uses when looking to score under the rim and when crashing in for rebounds. Rink is an elite shot-blocker that will erase anything in his path around the rim. On pick-n-rolls, he rolls to the basket nicely setting up open-look opportunities in the paint.
Manley is a great inside player who can play with his back to the basket most of the time. At 7’0″ he moves well for his size covering lots of ground on the defensive end. He will usually have little problem rebounding the ball because of his height and long arms. He has a soft touch around the rim and an effective post-hook shot he can go to whenever he wants. Manley will look to contest any shot that comes in the paint.
Manley is a defensive anchor around the rim for his team as he will swat and contest any shot that comes near him. At 7’0″ he can affect the game on the defensive end in numerous ways. He makes excellent outlet passes on the fastbreak when grabbing the defensive rebound. Manley has excellent timing on his offensive rebounds and putbacks and likes to play with his back to the basket and use size to his advantage.
Ajeigbe is a terrific two-way center who can affect the game in so many different ways because of his size and athleticism. He has a dominant inside game seemingly looking to always throw it down whenever he can. He is smooth on turnaround and post-fade shots. His timing on offensive putbacks makes it difficult for players to have to box him out. Ajeigbe is an eraser around the rim when blocking shots and can move all over on defense wherever you need him.
Grier is an elite defender who can guard both on the perimeter and the inside. His ability to block shots is what makes him a dominant force on the defensive end. His timing seems to always be perfect when blocking and contesting shots around the rim. He moves laterally well at 6’7″ and can switch onto anyone. Grier can finish strong with both hands around the rim and makes it a factor to always get good positioning on the inside.
