The competition has stepped up recently though with Edison, Washburn, and Southwest all improving and become more consistent. South should take a step back towards where they were a few years ago as well.
Conference Commentary
Top Ten in State Potential: Minneapolis North, Minneapolis Edison
At this point the Minneapolis City crown is North’s to lose. They have to be beaten before we go away from them at number one. And with the league MVP back (three players shared it last year and Rich was one of them) as a main scoring option (Zashon Rich), with a big in Jordan Hurd Jordan Hurd 6'6" | C Minneapolis North | 2024 MN , and a ball handler in Allen Hill, North is still in a good spot to go for that league title. They did lose a huge senior class of players that won a lot of games so there are a number of spots to fill. Edison is in AAA and while they were just 7-5 last year in league play, they did win 20 games and they do bring back their top two players (Taylor and Ayala) who are both returning all league talents.
Compete with Most: Washburn, Southwest, South
Both Washburn and Southwest are contenders for the Minneapolis City title, but they are also Class AAAA teams that will be in the middle of the AAAA power rankings and not likely to make the top ten. That said, they are both teams that could push to win 17 to 20 games this year and both have a shot at the league title. Jorgensen will be the most dominant force in the league plus he has multiple starters returning with him while Southwest has four quality pieces back themselves. South has Davis back, we really like the potential of Romero Walker Romero Walker 6'7" | PF Minneapolis South | 2024 State MN , and they got a solid transfer from Edison as well in Jumarion Weh Jumarion Weh 6'0" | PG Minneapolis South | 2024 State MN .
Rebuilding: Henry, Roosevelt
Roosevelt won four games total a season ago, they won four contests overall, and are a young group trying to rebuild. Henry won two league last season and eight games total. They are in a bit better spot than Roosevelt but still not quite at the talent level of the rest of the league from what we can tell. If Avery Wells Avery Wells 6'4" | PF Minneapolis Roosevelt | 2024 MN is healthy and in the box score more than last season they have a chance to be better.
