Prep Hoops Florida is taking a look at the preseason all-state teams for the upcoming season. We have a lot of new faces in new places this season and are excited to tip-off next month. Here are some of the top players to watch for in Class 3A this season:
Dante Allen, A 6-4 junior small forward with a highly-touted IQ and skilled on the interior. Allen plays with a load of physicality on both ends of the floor using his strength and body to finish at the rim. He is also a perennial threat to score from the perimeter and has a great motor. On the defensive end, Allen is very active and rebounds well for his size.
Dwayne Wimbley, A 6-7 junior is very athletic and active for his size where he dominates on the glass at both ends of the floor. Wimbley is a lob threat around the rim on the offensive end where he can finish effectively and through traffic using his strength to an advantage. He also has a very good handle for his size and his skillset on the perimeter has continued to improve as well. Wimbley plays with high energy on the defensive end as he is very active in the passing lanes where he can get steals which lead to transition baskets on the offensive end.
Alex Lloyd, A 6-4 junior is one of the top uprising prospects not just in the state, but emerging to be a top-tier prospect across the nation. Lloyd does a great job fulfilling the point guard position and can initiate any type of offense displaying his great feel for the game. Lloyd plays with an unselfish knack of making the extra pass or impact the game in a variety of ways. His defensive mechanics have continued to improve as he has a long wingspan where he can be very active off the ball by jumping the passing lanes to get steals. He moves really well laterally as well where he can contest shots at the front of the rim.
Brandon Bass Jr, A 6-4 sophomore wing who is athletic for his size as well as can handle both guard positions. Over the summer, Bass continued to improve his inside game where he can score on the attack as well as off the catch on the blocks. He has a ton of strength where he can finish through traffic and is unafraid to get to the free throw line. The left-handed sharpshooter has also continued to improve his perimeter game where he has shown a ton of confidence in shooting from the corner. Bass currently holds offers from Houston, LSU, Stanford, UCF and several others.
Patrick Johnson, A 6-7 junior power forward has a great combination skillset of size, length and athleticism. He is explosive on the offensive end when finishing at the front of the rim using his strong instincts off the catch. He has also spent a lot of the off-season working on being able to expand his game and shoot from the perimeter. On the defensive end, Johnson does a great job at slowing down fastbreaks with his ability to guard across all three scoring levels. He is also a menace around the glass whether it’s blocking shots or finishing put-backs on the offensive end.
Jermal Jones Jr, A 6-4 sophomore combo guard has proven he can be a big-time prospect as he plays with a ton of strength and confidence when he has the basketball in his hands. Jones is a strong finisher around the rim as well as displaying great court vision on the offensive end. On the defensive end, Jones is very versatile where he can guard on the ball or off the ball at a high level becoming a disruptor in the passing lanes. He is also a solid rim protector and shot blocker using his length to contest shots at the front of the rim. Jones currently holds an offer from Stetson University which will not be his last offer either.
Highlights
Kent Jackson, A 6-2 senior guard and recent Jacksonville University commit is arguably one of the top underrated prospects in the state. Jackson has a strong IQ and can score off the dribble as well as off the catch at a high level. Jackson has emerged into a distributor on the offensive end as well where he has been getting his teammates involved early and often. On the defensive end, Jackson has shown he can guard on and off the ball at a high level using his ability to show his speed where he can cover a lot of ground. Excited for Jackson and his squad as they have the talent to make a run at a possible Final Four berth this upcoming season.
