Preseason Player of the Year: 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1174816' first='Toryn' last='Severson'] (Madrid)

After breaking through and reaching the 1A state tournament last season, Madrid has their sights set even higher this year, and Severson is the primary reason why. A skilled wing who can take over games on both ends of the floor, he's the best player on the league's best team and is a pretty easy selection here for POY honors.

First Team

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1174816' first='Toryn' last='Severson'] (Madrid): 20.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.6 blocks, 49.5 FG%, 87.3 FT%

Severson combines good size (6-4) on the wing with a dynamic skill set that includes the ability to score efficiently from all three levels, create plays for his teammates, rebound on both ends of the floor, and defend multiple positions. He has a knack for knowing when to take over a game as a scorer and is a dominant two-way player.

2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1725069' first='Dayson' last='Leerhoff'] (Pleasantville): 22.2 points, 11.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.8 blocks

A bouncy forward who dominates the glass on both ends of the floor, Leerhoff was dominant as a junior for the Trojans and followed that up with a strong summer. He runs the floor hard and has great touch and good footwork around the rim with either hand. His ability to impact the game as a rim protector is huge for Pleasantville as well, allowing their guards to take some chances on the perimeter.

2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1171689' first='Landon' last='Craven'] (Des Moines Christian): 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 4.3 steals

Craven is a quick guard with a real knack for jumping passing lanes and turning defense into quick, easy offense. He's at his best offensively when he's playing downhill and attacking the rim, using his quickness and ball-handling to blow by defenders and get to the bucket, where he's a creative, talented finisher.

2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1945853' first='Austin' last='Taylor'] (Woodward-Granger): 14.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.3 steals, 3.6 blocks, 50.0 FG%, 48.8 3P%, 86.0 FT%

Taylor is a major matchup problem at 6-6 and with his ability to shoot the leather off the ball. Just look at those shooting splits from last season! Couple his shooting with his ability to protect the rim defensively and you have a dynamic two-way player who is going to be a really nice pickup for some small school looking for a stretch-4.

2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1587394' first='Maddox' last='Hammerstrom'] (Panorama): 14.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals

A stat-sheet stuffer, Hammerstrom led the Panthers in every major category except for blocks last season. His ability to create shots for himself and his teammates as well as control the glass on both ends of the floor is invaluable for the Panthers.
