That can sometimes mean a lot of windshield time traveling to places further away, that many never take the time to get to, in order to make sure that no players go unnoticed. One of my favorite was to stay up-to-date on the greater Evansville area and all of southwestern Indiana is an annual trip down to the Pocket City Fall League. ND Kendrick, a long time friend, does a great job organizing this event and getting all of the top talent under one roof. The opportunity to see that many talented players in a four or five hour span makes the trip very much worth it each fall. Let’s dive on in to some of the top individual performers that I saw on Sunday at Week 2 of the annual Pocket City Basketball Fall League.
Cayden Gehlhausen
Cayden Gehlhausen
The Pocket City Basketball Fall League was full of impressive forwards and centers. This 6’6″ Evansville North High School product was certainly one of them. Gehlhausen averaged just shy of a double-double as a junior with 11.8 points and 9.1 rebounds and looks ready to expand those numbers even further as a senior. He is a talented scorer with his back to the basket, runs the floor well for his size, and is an excellent rebounder in his area. Under-the-radar name to know in the Evansville area this season.
In Week 1, Holmes was dominant putting up some massive scoring numbers. He followed it up in Week 2 with another very strong performance and proved once again that he is one of the more intriguing sophomores in the area. Holmes has good size and length at 6’6″, is talented with the ball in his hands, and shows flashes of being a versatile defender. In the first game of the day he battled very well on both ends of the floor against Tornatta and used his length and athleticism to score in the mid-post area consistently. Poised for a breakout sophomore season.
This event featured several very intriguing big men from in and around the Evansville area. McNair was arguably the best of the bunch as he displayed his high-level rebounding ability along with a soft touch with both hands around the basket. At 6’6″ with a strong, physical build, McNair has excellent footwork and lateral agility around the basket. He can beat you with a quick drop step in the post and consistently finishes around the defense with quick feet. The Evansville Harrison High School product is a double-double machine that should be near the top of the list for any small college program in need of a big man.

Morton had to have been one of the top scorers at Sunday’s event because it seemed like every time I was watching during his two games he was putting the ball in the basket. The 5’11” left-handed guard is very strong off of the dribble which allows him to play through contact and finish well around the rim despite his smaller stature. On the perimeter, Morton was a high percentage maker from three-point range knocking in multiple three-point shots in both games he played. Look fort the Pike Central High School star to have yet another big season as one of the top scorers in southwestern Indiana.
While his four-star high school teammate catches a lot of the spotlight, this 6’4″ guard deserves plenty of shine of his own heading into his sophomore season. Prior is an athletic, skilled perimeter player that showcased his well-rounded scoring and playmaking prowess at Week 2 of the Pocket City Fall League. In one game, Prior knocked in a game-tying three-point shot as time expired in regulation and then started the overtime period off with a tough pull-up three off the dribble. He handles the ball very well, is a willing and able passer, and has three-level scoring potential. Becoming one of the more intriguing prospects in the Class of 2026.
Highlights
Tornatta has emerged as a popular low-major Division I, Division II, high-level NAIA prospect after an excellent summer with Kyle Guy Elite. The 6’7″ left-handed forward averaged a double-double with 12.9 points and 11.7 rebounds as a junior and should compete for Indiana All-Star status as a senior. He is the best passing forward in the state of Indiana, obviously rebounds at a high level, and possesses great footwork both in the post and when operating out at the elbows. Very talented interior presence.
