In this article I am going to give out my preseason predictions as to who I think has the best chance of winning a title for their perspective class.
Please take into consideration that these predictions are based on a handful of factors, considered at THIS moment in time. We are still 1+ month away from the season tipping off, all of these situations are fluid and anything can change at any moment.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
4A
Valley High School (21-5)
Valley High School brought home the 4A State Title last season and they are prepped to do the same again this season. Valley will lose some of their starters from a year ago due to graduation but in general, they will bring back their core of star 2025 players. The only question will be if X Robinson will be back and able to compete during the State Playoffs, coming off of shoulder surgery. If he does return as his normal self, this Tigers team should have every weapon to repeat again this time around. Will it be easy? Definitely not. There are 3-5 teams in this Class that could make a run during the playoffs, winning the title before the season comes to a end but we will just have to see how things play out.
3A
Bishop Heelan High School (19-7)
This pick might be out there for some peoples liking but I think that 3A is a class that is wide open this season. There isn’t going to be one super dominate team in my opinion and that is going to play favor to this Crusaders team. A team that is lead by a force in the form of Forward Matt Noll. Noll is a D2 commit, who showed his dominance last season on the State stage. He is prepped to lead his team and have another great season for his senior year but he is going to have to rely on his teammates to step up in important moments throughout meaningful games. If they can do that and play off of Noll’s success, this team has a real shot to “shock” 3A this season and bring home a State Championship.
2A
Western Christian High School (22-4)
Another wide-open Class in this state this upcoming season is 2A. Right off the bat, checking on stats and returning personal to the roster, I like Western Christian to be my favorites the start of this season in this Class. They bring back 3/5 starters while having a bench presence with some experience from prior seasons. Last year this group may not of had the best record overall but they only lost 4 games and played one of the hardest schedules throughout the state, with a SOS of 35th according to Varsity Bound. Taking all these factors into consideration and there being no real “front-runner” in 2A, give me the Huskies to run the table once the Playoffs get underway.
1A
North Linn High School (26-1)
Within a program that is founded on years of tradition and dedication, the North Linn Lynx are going to suit up for another season this winter and they are going to be my preseason favorite to win the 1A State Title once again. The varsity roster that this program will bring back is identical to the one they had last season. When you understand this factor, study their personal, & know that Grandview Christian has moved up to 2A for the Playoffs for the next two seasons at the least, the road to a State Championship widens a little bit. I would even venture to say that on paper this season, if Grandview and North Linn had a rematch for the Title, the Lynx’s would come out on top. This is a long season but until someone steps up to prove me otherwise, North Linn will hoist the trophy at the end of this basketball season for the 1A Class.
