Today we cover the Eastern Plains 2A conference, with defending state champs Farmville Central and rapidly rising Washington in the mix as well. Check out our picks for their all-conference team below.
Zy’Tavious Thigpen
Zy’Tavious Thigpen
Last Season Stats – 12.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 5.3 APG
Thigpen is undersized, but still a dynamic, attacking point guard in this league. Has plus speed and acceleration that allows him to beat guys off the bounce and attack downhill. Able to spray it out to teammates with poise and confidence consistently. Still improving as a jump shooter but his mechanics give confidence that it can improve this season. Defensively going to be a liability but can more than make up for that with his offensive play.
Last Season Stats – 12.7 PPG
Listed as a shooting guard here, Williams shows up real combo guard versatility in his ability to both fill it up as well as make plays for his teammates. He’s on the smaller side but is a dynamite scorer, really knocking down shots from deep and showing off quick handles and burst that beats many defender’s closeouts. Really an up in your jersey type defender on the ball as well.
Last Season Stats – 14.9 PPG, 3.0 APG, 2.0 SPG
Smith is primed to handle the ball most of the season this year for Washington, and his performances this summer on a national stage have set him up to be wildly successful this year. He’s incredibly dynamic in every sense of the word, with extreme gravity going downhill because of his acceleration and power. He’s got the vision to fire out and find teammates that are open because of his drives. Slasher that attacks the rim with incredible power for his age.
Highlights
Last Season Stats – 17.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 59% FG
Williams will continue to excel as a leading scorer and playmaker for this Washington group with his elite scoring ability inside the arc and great frame for a off ball guard. He’s a real 6’4 with the length and strength to make an impact physically on both ends of the floor. Really excels at the mid-range and floater area of his game, with really pure touch and ability to create separation to get his shot off. Able to finish at the rim fine, but would much rather get to that 12 foot pull up.
JD Daniels
JD Daniels
Last Season Stats – 10.9 PPG
Daniels will be stepping into a bigger role as a forward in the wake of Jah Short’s departure, and he should be ready to go. He had some big moments last year in their run to a state title but will be expected to bring his all-around game where he does a whole lot of everything back. Great slasher and attacking downhill, but also impressive on the defensive end. Plays bigger than his size and rebounds/protects the rim with power and confidence. Plays incredibly hard and is on the floor seemingly all the time.
