It was one of the few events where division one programs could attend and evaluate in person, and boy were there tons of prospects for them to watch.
Here’s a look at part one of some of the high school and post grad standouts from the VA teams in attendance.
Jaden Johnson | 6’2” PG | Fork Union 2024
Johnson was a standout at Bishop McNamara before injuries hobbled him the last two years of his high school career, but he’s back healthy now and in the best shape of his life as he helped FUMA to a 4-1 record against some very talented teams. The 6’2” point guard showed his ability to touch the paint and finish using his strength, he showed good wiggle off the bounce and he shot the ball well from the midrange and from deep too. He showed great leadership and was very coachable throughout the event, and his playmaking on both ends of the floor was impressive.
DeSean Goode | 6’8” PF | Fork Union 2024
Goode was another impressive prospect for this new look FUMA team, who went away from their usual big heavy lineup to a more athletic look with Goode playing the five for most of the time making them very versatile and switchable. He’s a good athlete who gets up and down the floor and plays above the rim, while also showing the ability to step out on the perimeter where he can make shots and put it on the deck as well. He’s starting to fill out nicely and his versatility on both ends of the floor makes him very intriguing as a collegiate prospect moving forward.
David Burnett | 6’4” WG | Fork Union 2024
Burnett will be an important part for this new look FUMA group, as he provides great energy for them on both ends of the floor and was very productive across the board. The 6’4” wing is a good athlete who thrives in transition with his ability to play above the rim, he can drill it from deep off the catch and he’s a good rebounder and defender for his position too. He earned an offer from D2 Tuskegee with his play at the event.
Michael Wilson | 6’6” WF | Fork Union 2024
Wilson looks like he’ll be the x-factor for this FUMA team this year, and he’s an intriguing prospect with his blend of size, skill and athleticism that allows him to do a little bit of everything for his team. At 6’6” he has prototypical size on the wing and is an explosive finisher when he gets out in transition or gets downhill, and he’s a knock down shooter from deep making him a 3 and d wing prospect at the next level. He has a great IQ for the game and makes good decisions, and he makes an impact even when it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet.
Jayden Harris | 6’7” WF | Massanutten 2024
Harris continues to impress this fall as he looks like he’ll be one of the top players in the post grad scene this year, and he went toe-to-toe with one of the top pro prospects in high school and showing off his whole repertoire. At 6’7” he has a strong frame and the ability to handle it and get downhill where he can finish through traffic, he can drill it from deep and gets hot quickly and he is only going to get better as he plays more with the ball in his hands.
Ngundeng Ruey | 6’10” C | Massanutten 2024
Ruey showed flashes of brilliance at the event as he showed his perimeter skill set while also being a presence in the paint defensively, and he’s going to be a problem come January as he gets more reps and learns the game more. He showed his ability to shoot it from deep and he has great arc to be able to get his shot off, he can handle the ball in transition and get to the rim in the half court and he can protect the rim with his long arms and timing as a shot blocker. He picked up an offer from St. Bonaventure after his play this weekend.
Jordan Reed | 6’6” F | Massanutten 2024
Reed is going to be an x-factor for this Massanutten team this year, as he is a versatile forward who can play multiple positions and provides much needed outside shooting for them. At 6’6” he’s a mismatch as he is strong enough to play and guard the four, he can play the three and allow them to go big and he stretches the floor with his ability to drill it from deep even with a hand in his face. He played well throughout the weekend and will be a pivotal part of their success throughout the year.
Ruey Ruey Ruey Ruey 6'6" | SF Massanutten | 2025 State VA | 6’6” WF | Massanutten 2026
When it comes to underclassmen in the event with a lot of older players, Ruey stood out as the young wing from Canada played well even against the JUCO teams they played with players four and five years older than him. The younger brother of Ngendeng he’s likely still growing and that’s scary as he already has a good skillset as a true wing who can handle, shoot and make plays for others. He looked good in the pick-and-roll making good reads, he shot the ball well from deep and in transition he showed good finishing ability with both hands.
