The Border League brought teams from across the country to Southern Nevada for a three-day event which was loaded with top team and individual matchups. In this piece we take a closer look at the top performing point guards from the weekend.
Mason Magee Mason Magee 6'0" | PG Basha | 2026 State AZ , 2026, Basha (AZ)
This was my first extended look at Magee and I came away impressed with his presence and poise as the signal caller. The sophomore has a great frame with length to go along with his speed and quickness. Magee is a pass-first style of point guard who stays on balance, plays off of two feet and is always looking to make the right play.
Mikel Brown Jr. Mikel Brown Jr. 5'11" | PG Orlando Christian Prep | 2025 #23 Nation KS , 2025, Overtime Elite (GA)
Brown has an uncanny combination of being a high level scorer while also knowing when to take a step back and get his teammates involved. The 6-foot-2 junior is a smooth and crafty ball handler who can wiggle his way into the lane and either look to get himself a bucket or find an open shooter or big man to dish to. Brown has great feel and vision in ball-screen action and is a versatile offensive threat with his vision and scoring ability.
Robert Wright III Robert Wright III 6'0" | PG Montverde Academy (FL) | 2024 State #35 Nation FL , 2024, Montverde Academy (FL)
Wright is your consummate floor general in every way imaginable. The 6-footer is surrounded by high level players and manages to stand out as the guy who makes it all go without having to score. The Baylor-commit has elite feel for the game and controls pace and tempo as well as any other point guard we’ve seen. While he doesn’t need to score with all the weapons he has around him, Wright is a crafty finisher in the lane and around the basket.
Tiger Cuff Tiger Cuff 6'4" | CG American Fork | 2024 State UT , 2024, American Fork (UT)
Cuff is the perfect example of being an extension of the head coach on the floor. The 6-foot-3 senior plays for his dad and the father/son continuity is evident from the first few possessions of any American Fork game you watch. Cuff possesses a high basketball IQ, effortless feel and his teammates trust him to make the right play on every possession – which he does.
Trent Perry Trent Perry 6'4" | PG Harvard-Westlake | 2024 State #70 Nation CA-S , 2024, Harvard-Westlake
Perry had a big weekend not only on the court but also with his college commitment to USC, which was live broadcast on the ESPN broadcast. Perry is an elite jump shooter off the catch from three-point range and off the bounce at the mid-range level but what makes him a high-major player is his ability to mix that in with high IQ playmaking for teammates.
Zoom Diallo Zoom Diallo 6'4" | PG Prolific Prep (CA) | 2024 #19 Nation CA-N , 2024, Prolific Prep (CA)
Diallo is one of the more physically and athletically gifted point guards in the country which is why he’s being recruited at the highest levels. The 6-foot-4 senior has this distinctive combination of speed, quickness and physicality that allows him to get anywhere he wants on the floor. Diallo is a pass-first type of guy who can make every pass in the book on time and on target.
